Want cheaper flights? Google says it can tell you the most cost-effective times to book

When it comes to the life hacks we like to have up our sleeves, things don't get much better than ones for figuring out ways to spend less on travel.

After all, any tips that help us save cocktail-on-the-beach money can be no bad thing.

And now, Google is set to launch a new service that can do exactly that.

The search engine has added a genius flight-price-tracking update to its Google Flights service that will warn you when the cost of a flight is due to increase, or help you monitor the fluctuating prices of a flight route.

The service, which is expected to launch in the next few weeks, will use historical flight data to predict when flight prices will rise and drop.

Google Flights will tell customers:

  • If the cost of flying certain routes arelikely to increase
  • The times prices are likely to rise
  • Predicted cost hikes
  • If the cost of a particular flight is likely to increase -and by how much

The new feature will also allow you to track flight prices for a selected route, and will send you email notifications if the price changes.

All in all: pretty handy stuff.
