Is this the world's most expensive apartment? Take a look inside the £240M Monaco penthouse

It's one of the richest nations on earth and a romping ground for movie stars, playboys and millionaires. But the latest property to hit the market in Monaco is expensive even by the standards of its Ferrari-touting residents.

Tour Odéon's newly constructed skyscraper towers majestically on the skyline of this tiny city-state. Rising 170 metres above sea level, it comprises 70 apartments with floor-to-ceiling windows, chic private terraces and unparalleled views of the French Riviera.

Its pièce de résistance is the 3,300-square metre "Sky Penthouse", which luxury property developers Groupe Marzocco hope to sell for a whopping €300 million - or £240 million.

This would make it the world's most expensive penthouse, according to global property consultants Knight Frank LLP, quoted by Bloomberg.

France's Challenges magazine, which first reported the eye-watering asking price, said the apartment could even go for more as billionaires rush to escape new levies on luxury homes in London and the breakdown of financial secrecy laws in neighbouring Switzerland.

This, coupled with a U.S.-led crackdown on hiding assets, makes tax-free haven Monaco an attractive prospect to the super-rich.

So what bang do you get for your (bank-load worth of) buck?

Tour Odéon's penthouse is located over four floors, on the 45th to 49th level of the skyscraper. Among other features, it comes with a kitchen on each floor, five bedrooms, a living room and a dining room, all sumptuously designed with sweeping 360 degree views of Monaco's dramatic mountain-meets-sea scenery.

There's a private home-cinema, sauna and large outdoor swimming pool, which is accessible either from a terrace or (and this is our favourite bit) a slide that extends from several floors up.

This private pool could be yours for a cool £240m

Each of the rooms are beautifully appointed by interior designer Albert Pinto, with elegant, modern details that stem from lead architect Alexandre Giraldi's vision of a luxurious coastal haven.

Should you bore of the penthouse (and your own private flume), you could take a wander round the rest of the building, which comes with a string of sumptuous facilities.

There's a wellness centre with a hammam, sauna, Russian bath and private spa suites (naturally), as well as multiple swimming pools and a state-of-the-art home business centre.

At the swipe of an integrated screen within their apartments, residents can order up an in-house caterer, a private chauffeur or a valet. Should you need anything else, the 24/7 concierge service is there to help.

Work on the building is set to be completed next year, with the apartments going on sale from September 2015.

The tower is now the second tallest building on the Mediterranean coastline, and the first skyscraper to have been built in Monaco since the 1980s due to the country's strict construction laws.

The tower is ideally located in the centre of Monaco, just five minutes away from the iconic Place du Casino.

James Price from Knight Frank, which is handling the sale of flats in Tour Odéon, told the Mail: "These duplexes and the penthouse are set to catch the eye of those looking for the very best properties across the world's leading markets."
