Behold the world's friendliest places to visit

ThinkstockPhotos-470518342.jpg

We might get a lot of slack for our cloudy skies and icy people, but one of Britain's largest cities has ranked in the top 10 of the most friendliest cities on Earth.

With its “wonderful pubs filled with laughter,” and “local musicians playing and everyone smiling and singing along,” Edinburgh was named the sixth most friendly place to visit in the world.

Topping the list was Sydney at number one followed by Dublin at number two and Queenstown in New Zealand at third place.

Condé Nast Traveler cast their eyes over a million votes from nearly 77,000 of its readers to calculate just which destinations give the warmest welcome to its tourists.

It also listed the least hospitable places, which included Cannes in France (10), Cairo in Egypt (7) and Caracas in Venezuela in the number one spot.

Speaking about Edinburgh, one reader said, “People really went out of their way to help us, direct us, and serve us,” while another added, “seeing the city lit up by fireworks on New Year's Eve was an extraordinary treat” surrounded by "cheerful and lovely crowds”.

We take a look at the warmest (and we're not talking weather) places you can visit in the world. Consider it your friendly travel bucket list.
