Did you know bread is packed with benefits, providing more than 10% of the average adult’s intake of iron, zinc, magnesium, protein and B vitamins, as well as a small amount of potassium? No, neither did we. We also didn’t realise that white bread is a good source of non-dairy calcium and that, according to the National Diet and Nutrition Survey, people who regularly eat bread are more likely to have a healthy diet overall.
All of which makes us feel even more excited about our daily lunchtime Christmas sandwich sessions.
“Bread is good for you and is a healthy choice as part of a balanced diet,” sports nutritionist Anita Bean explains. “It is an important source of carbohydrate, which fuels the brain, nervous system and heart, as well as all your daily activities and exercise. It’s low fat and low in sugar, while wholegrain, wholemeal and brown bread is high in fibre.”
After discovering that women are largely unaware of the benefits of bread as a source of healthy carbs which fuel exercise, We Heart Bread teamed up with athleisure retailer Active In Style to create a range of workout clothes for all bread lovers. So now you can look and feel great, fit and fulfilled when you’re #PoweredbyBread. We’re giving away nine sets – two tops and a pair of leggings each – to readers.
