Better still, she also finds the power to overcome her cruel victimiser.

Jessica’s success on screen has opened up an entire new world of superheroes for women everywhere: in 2017, Greta Gerwig gave us Wonder Woman. Just last year, Black Panther introduced us to the badass women of (played by Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba, Leitita Wright) and Danai Gurira). And, on International Women’s Day 2019, Brie Larson will be bringing Captain Marvel to life on screen, too.

All in all, the future is very bright for feminist superheroes… and that’s all down to the very same superhero that has now been cancelled. It remains to be seen as to whether Disney or Marvel TV will continue to create new episodes for Jessica on a new channel or streaming platform. For now, though, we can’t wait to see how the resilient Jessica fares in her final third Netflix series, and how her experiences will continue to shape her into the feminist defender we know she is.

The third series of Jessica Jones is due to air on Netflix later this year, although an official date is yet to be released. Set to return alongside star Krysten Ritter a.k.a Jessica Jones are her sister Trish/Hellcat (Rachael Taylor), neighbour Malcolm Ducasse (Eka Darville), and attorney Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss)—whose character was tragically diagnosed with ALS in season two.

Speculating about her character’s fate at Comicpalooza, Rytter said: “She has a lot to live up to… maybe we’ll see her be a bit of a hero?”
