Chinese-American artist and choreographer Qinmin Liu is on a mission to create a better travel experience. As part of a self-described art project, Liu is launching her own airline – guaranteeing its customers the chance to “fly with happiness”, as well as a journey filled with “positive energy”.

Liu – who lives in New York and studied at the School of Visual Arts – is acting as CEO, airline representative and chief flight attendant for the company, which is called Angelhaha.

The airline is scheduled to start flying next month, but chances are most of us won’t be booking a flight on Angelhaha anytime soon. That’s because it caters to a very specific passenger – namely, those who wish to use the airline to fly to the world’s most exclusive art events.

The first flight will take off on the 6 December, and travels from New York to Miami for the Florida hot spot’s Art Basel event.

While that maiden flight will take place on a private jet seating only nine passengers, with one-way tickets costing between $2,700-$3,500 (£2029-£2630), Liu insists that future flights will be more affordable. She has plans to operate one-way flights to events in New York, Hong Kong, Venice, Berlin and Paris on a larger aircraft, with ticket prices ranging from $300-$3,000 (£225-£2254) depending on the itinerary.

Speaking to Lonely Planet Travel News, Liu said that hopes to use the ambitious project to “push the limit” as an artist, and start making “unachievable dreams come true”.
