Whether it’s graphic eyeliner or glassy/glossy skin, this is the kit you need to channel catwalk beauty trends IRL…
Catwalk beauty trends often fall into two categories - those so mind-boggling intricate that only those blessed with surgical dexterity and a painter’s eye can achieve them, and those so ‘nothing-y’ that you have to already be a Swedish supermodel to pull them off.
Every now and then, however, a few emerge that are as covetable as they are wearable. This season, our favourite beauty looks are pleasingly flattering and foolproof for one and all - and we’ve created the toolkits you need for each to make them even more accessible.
From Laura Mercier and Buxom to Nars and Shiseido, here’s what you need to get the looks.
1. Pink eyeshadow
Everything from fuschia from sorbet shades was spotted on the A/W18 runways, with models at Dior, Anna Sui and Marni leading the charge.
The easiest way to trial the trend? Take a strongly pigmented shadow like Nars Domination and Fatale eyeshadow and buff it to your heart’s content; maybe sheerer for day, but more opaque by night.
Skip eyeliner and team with megawatt lashes courtesy of Buxom Lash Volumising Mascara, and tidy any errant dark circles with Shiseido Perfecting Stick Concealer.
2. Graphic liner
Graphic liner might sound a little too avant-garde for some, but it needn’t be shouty.
Sure, it’s fun, but a few well-placed slicks of colour or bold angles, like we saw at Emilio Pucci, Chloe and Prada show that this trend has luxurious roots.
Experiment with bareMinerals Stroke of Light Concealer to brighten the area, then play around with Shiseido Kajal Inkartist in ‘Sumi Sky’ and Laura Mercier TightLine Cake Eye Liner. Top with lashings of Nars Climax Mascara for a fluttery finish.
3. Glossy skin
No makeup-makeup is de rigeur at fashion week, but the models at Isabel Marant, Off White and Stella Jean kicked things up a notch this season with skin so dewy, it seemed to reflect light.
Perfect for lazy Sundays, we blended Laura Mercier Foundation Primer with bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Defense for an airy, breathable base. Layered over Shiseido Waso Fresh Jelly Lotion, the result was springy, supple skin we want to wear all the time.
4. All-over metallics
If all-over metallics sounds a little too space-age for you, take your cues from Preen’s and Giambattista Valli’s girls instead. Team a high-shine eye with glistening cheekbones and a modern metallic lip and you’ve got one strong party season look.
We used Nars Eye Paint in ‘Iskander’, over Buxom Eyeshadow in ‘Gold Status’, and finished with Laura Mercier Full Blown Mascara.
Shiseido Aura Dew can be used all over, so we used it as a creamy lip colour, and dusted bareMinerals Invisible Glow Highlighter over the high points of the face - over a base of bareMinerals Illuminating Mineral Veil.
