6 new fragrance releases you’ll want to get your hands on

You’ve already sorted out your new season wardrobe, now it’s time to pick yourself out a new signature fragrance. Here are six of the best new ones to add to your collection…

While there’s always plenty of planning involved in making sure your roster of roll-necks, boots and overcoats are ready for the run-up to winter, we often find ourselves without a suitable fragrance to set off our a/w wardrobe.

Ideally, you’re looking for something nice and flexible, a scent that’s fine for a roast and a red in a cosy pub but also suitable for the onset of party season.

Happily, the September Beauty Edit from John Lewis & Partners has brought together some of the most versatile new fragrances on the market, all of which will see you through the post-summer change-up.

Warning: tricky decisions incoming…

  • 1. Gucci Mémoire

You’ll know this one from the absolute frenzy it sparked when Harry Styles became the face of the publicity campaign for Gucci’s latest fragrance.

It’s a unisex one, though, so no need to worry about your new scent coming off as overtly masculine.

“It smells like what I imagine Joan Didion’s house to smell like,” said the man himself, conjuring up the appealing notion of 60s Californian cool.

Expect a combination of chamomile and jasmine, with notes of sandalwood and cedarwood making their presence felt.

  • 2. Tom Ford Metallique

If you’re looking for something more overtly feminine, Tom Ford’s new fragrance might just be the answer.

There are big floral notes from the presence of aldehydes, an ingredient popularised in a lot of big 90s fragrances and given a more subtle makeover here.

Far less overpowering than its forebears, this is a surprisingly delicate scent that hits pleasing notes of blossom without ever feeling sickly.

  • 3. YSL Libre

With blockbusters like Black Opium in the back catalogue, YSL has bags of perfume pedigree and they have struck on another winner here.

This is another punchy fragrance, with a big hit of citrus blending with lively florals before eventually giving way to warming base notes of vanilla and cedarwood.

It also comes in a striking statement bottle, for a tasteful addition of bling to the bathroom cabinet.

  • 4. Lancôme Idôle

Created by a trio of female parfumiers, this delicately floral perfume is perfect for fans of ultra-feminine fragrance.

As you might have guessed from the colour, there’s a big rose accord at the heart of the fragrance, backed up by gentle notes of jasmine.

And then there’s that bottle… ultra-thin with a sleek rose gold frame, you just know it’s going straight on the ’gram.

  • Twilly d’Hermès

Two years after the original Twilly D’Hermès first hit shelves comes a brand new scent that’s less a remix and more a total do-over.

This time out the three-ingredient formula blends pink peppercorn with rose and patchouli for a perky, spicy scent.

If the original was aimed at a younger market, this is more of an adult-feeling fragrance and all the better for it.

  • 6. Eau de Givenchy Rosée

Back in the 50s, Givenchy’s muse was a certain Audrey Hepburn, with the designer asking his movie star friend to be the face of his very first fragrance.

Some 60-odd years later and the label’s latest scent still oozes Hepburn-era elegance.

It’s a very fresh-feeling perfume, with mandarin, hyacinth and the exotically-named Osmanthus tea.

No, we weren’t familiar either, but it smells delightful.
