Francois Nars’ artistry has won him legendary status in the beauty industry, and his eponymous range of products are wholly deserving of the hype. If you’re new to Nars, here’s what you need to try…

Few make-up artists make the kind of impact that Francois Nars has.

He has peers, of course (Kevyn Aucoin, Mary Greenwell and Pat McGrath spring to mind), but it’s his incredible make-up range that’s helped cement his status as a true superstar.

Sometimes outspoken, always diverse (Nars were one of the first to have non-white models in their ad campaigns, with Alek Wek and Naomi Campbell both starring), Nars is in the rare position of being an artist’s brand that consumers really love, too.

The pigments pack a punch, the colours are always vibrant and the finish is long-wearing, but the textures of Nars make-up means even absolute beginners can experiment.

In honour of Nars launching at Debenhams (that’s right – you can start clocking up Beauty Club points on these bad boys), we’ve rounded up the bestsellers you need to try…

1. Nars Blush in ‘Orgasm’

The blusher that launched a thousand, er, blushes, Orgasm remains one of the most popular make-up items of all time. In fact, two are sold every minute globally.

Scandalous name aside, the blush imparts a universally flattering, non-spangly but healthy flush to all skin tones.

It’s peachy rather than overly pinky and sheer in texture, making it easy to layer as much or as little as you fancy.

2. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

Radiant might sound like the last thing you want in a concealer (highlighting a blemish?), but this award-winner is something of a lifesaver.

Equally good on bothersome breakouts as it is on under-eye circles, the lightweight texture makes it easy to blend, but it’s still pigmented enough to cover some serious sins.

And when we say sins, we mean staying up all night binge-watching Making A Murderer.

Did we mention it also comes in 22 shades?

3. Nars Smudge-Proof Eyeshadow Base

“Neglect this eyeshadow primer at your peril,” says Stylist beauty editor Lucy Partington. “Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base has quickly become a staple in my routine.”

“It really does stop eyeshadow creasing and helps it last all day. It’s one of those products you don’t realise how good it is until you stop using it.”

If you’re looking for the answer to smeared, smudged lids come 3pm, this is it.

4. Nars Laguna Bronzer

The bronzer to end all bronzers. It suits lots of skin tones (though if you find it too pale, Casino is just as good for darker complexions), it gives summery, sun-kissed warmth and depth without going muddy.

“This is one of my can’t-be-without products,” says Stylist beauty contributor Daniela Morosini. “I dust it all over my face where the sun would hit, then take a smaller brush and buff it into the crease of my eyes for a subtle bit of definition on my eyes. It never fails me!”

5. Nars Multiple

Each and every one of Nars’ Multiples is worth its weight in gold. (Seriously, we’re very into the idea of owning them all, like the world’s best crayon set.) But ‘South Beach’ is Stylist Beauty Writer Hanna Ibraheem’s favourite.

“Every time I use Nars Multiple in South Beach, I wonder why I ever let it escape my make-up bag. The stick doesn’t drag against my face when I swipe it on and the formula melts onto my skin from the moment I start blending.”

“It leaves a shimmery bronzed finish that doesn’t look over-the-top. Plus, it works well as an eyeshadow. Just scribble it onto your lids and you’re good to go.”

6. Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in ‘Red Square’

Everyone has their red, but if you’re yet to find your perfect one, Red Square might be for you.

“I was sceptical of orange lipstick until I came across the Nars Velvet Matte Pencil in Red Square,” says Stylist Junior Beauty Writer Ava Welsing-Kitcher.

“It’s the perfect reddish-orange that doesn’t make your teeth appear yellow, and it suits pretty much everyone.

The formula is soft and matte without drying your lips out, and the chubby pencil applicator makes putting it on really easy.”

7. Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

This foundation came out nearly 10 years ago, and it’s just as good today as it was then.

Lightweight but buildable, radiant without being shiny, it’s a joy to apply and feels feather-light on the skin. That being said, you can certainly dial up the coverage if you want a fuller finish – you can have any way you want it.
