Beauty secrets: make-up, skincare and hair advice from Stylist readers

Published

Do you remember the scene in My Girl when Shelly, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, sits Vada (played by Anna Chlumsky) on the toilet and gives her first lesson in beauty? "The first rule of eye make-up is that you can never wear enough blue eye shadow," she says as she paints the young girl's eyes in blue.

While that might not be the most practical advice, there's something special about receiving first-hand tips from a friend or relative on the vast and often overwhelming world of beauty. We can trust the advice from the women around us because they're most likely facing similar problems when it comes to hair, skin, make-up and grooming. It's also likely that they've tried and tested remedies and products you haven't got around to.

To help you out, dear reader, we've collated a list of the best (and some strange) beauty tips you said you've been given. From how to make your lashes fuller to getting rid of dark circles, they're timeless recommendations for all ages.
