Just as you pack away your winter coat (and by pack away we mean keep it near enough to the front door that the unexpected minus temperatures in April won’t give you frostbite) and start to free yourself from the tyranny of tights, a change in season also calls for a switch in scent.

As spring makes itself known it’s time to say goodbye to those heady, heavy fragrances that served you well through a winter of dark nights and frosty air and make way for something a little lighter and invigorating to herald the longer days. Here is Stylist’s pick of the best of the brand new fragrance launches that will make you feel summery no matter what the forecast is.

Jo Malone Green Wheat & Meadowsweet Cologne

A freshly cut field is Britain’s third favourite scent (first and second are baking bread and bacon and we don’t think anyone wants to smell like a sandwich) and this deliciously fresh blend of green notes of wheat, zingy grapefruit and soft meadowsweet makes even the most hardened of city dwellers long for an early morning stroll through the countryside.

£47 3oml,

Kenzo World Eau De Toilette

The latest addition to the Kenzo World family, this sparkling scent bursts with a genre-fusing blend of fruity and floral notes. Sparkling pear stands out against the peony, almond blossom and orris for a fragrance that the creators Francis Kurkdjian and Maïa Lernout describe as, “A modern view of a feminine fragrance that has a positive energy, reinvents traditional perfumery codes and promotes cheerful self-confidence. A very serious invitation not to take oneself seriously.”

£38 30ml,

Clean Reserve Saguaro Blossom & Sand Eau De Parfum

Airy and alluring, this mix of zesty lemon and green ivy top notes blends addictively with the pretty addition of jasmine and rose de mai through the middle. Dry notes of blonde woods and musk give it a final sophisticated edge and keep it feeling grown up. Think early evening in a garden in the South of France and you’re there.

£129 100ml,

Shiseido Ever Bloom Sakura Art Edition

Inspired by sakura – Japanese cherry blossom – this is a fresh and feminine interpretation of the iconic flower. Creator Aurelien Guichard says, “I decided to start with an abstract impression of the petals, which are brought to life by the woody scents.” We say it’s a pretty, delicate fragrance that’s easy to wear every day.

£44 30ml,

Tory Burch Bel Azur

Tory Burch herself sums up this refreshing scent as, “Three of my greatest inspirations, travel, the sea and the colour blue,” and it definitely has that magical smells-like-holiday vibe. Bright bergamot acts like sunshine to the breeziness of neroli and peony while the vetiver captures that warmed skin deliciousness.
