When we think of Diptyque, our minds immediately conjure up images of beautifully scented candles and fragrance diffusers.
But now the brand is planning to move in a rather different direction, with the release of its first line of – wait for it – car air fresheners.
The luxury fresheners will be available in seven of Diptyque’s most-loved scents, from Baies (berries) to Figuier (fig tree), and will be available to purchase for £35, with extra refills costing £25 a pop.
The product is thought to be the first luxury car air freshener on the market – after all, those little green trees haven’t really had much competition so far. And while it might sound like an odd move for the brand, we’ve already witnessed the birth of the Prada paper clip and the Chanel boomerang, so really, the world is our luxury-products-we-didn’t-know-we-needed filled oyster.
Diptyque’s new launch comes over 50 years since the brand released its first scented candle and created a whole new world of luxury shopping, in which £45 doesn’t sound that unreasonable a price for a gorgeous smelling candle that will last for hours.
And we expect it will be the brand’s mega fans who will initially snap up the fresheners when they launch on 1 September (anyone who owns a Diptyque candle in every scent imaginable, we’re looking at you).
If you’re keen to get started on your decision making, the seven scents available will be Baies (Berries), Ambre (Amber), Figuier (Fig Tree), Roses (Roses), Fleur d’Oranger (Orange Blossom) and Gingembre (Ginger).
Speaking about their decision to launch the car fresheners, the people behind the brand said in a statement, “Diptyque believes that every moment of the day should be steeped in unforgettable scents.”
And to that we say: why on earth not?
