This high-street hero promises to prevent blemishes – and, according to Drew Barrymore, it does exactly what it says on the tin…

Ever since she first burst into cinemas as a cherubic six-year-old in E.T, the world has been obsessed with Drew Barrymore. And, while there’s no denying that she grew up to become one of the most enduring and talented actresses of her generation (see Never Been Kissed, The Wedding Singer, Charlie’s Angels and Santa Clarita Diet if you don’t believe us), it’s also difficult to deny that Barrymore has also become something of a beauty icon, too. She is after all, the founder of affordable make-up line Flower Beauty and a self-confessed #beautyjunkie – as proven by this raw aloe vera skincare hack she shared on her Instagram feed last year.

Is it any wonder, then, that we sat up and paid attention when Barrymore recently opened up about the beauty products she can’t live without?

Speaking to New Beauty, Barrymore explained that she didn’t start taking skincare seriously until she was in her 30s.

“When I was a teen, I washed my face with a bar of clear vitamin E soap,” she said, adding that she used “nothing” else whatsoever. “Moisturisers always broke me out. They still do on my chin. My chin is like a completely different neighborhood on my face, and you don’t go there after dark. Any product that goes on my chin will screw it up.”

Nowadays, she uses sheet masks as a “go-to skin fix” – and recommends that every woman buy a lip liner. Her hero product of choice, though, is a £16 bottle of Clinique’s Anti-Blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel.

“I just spot it on any arriving friend from out of town in the form of a zit and say, ‘Go back to where you came from!’” she said.

So what makes this product so special?

Described as a “miracle in a bottle” by fans, the daily treatment gel “starts clearing blemishes upon application”, which means that it doesn’t just banish redness: it “helps prevent new blemishes from making an unwelcome appearance”, too.

All you have to do to unleash its magic, according to Clinique, is apply a thin layer to your blemishes or your entire face twice a day after cleansing, and voila!

Of course, there is more to beauty than the lotions and potions we use on the outside, though. As Barrymore points out, we need to adopt healthy habits, too – and this can be as simple as “not being a total A-hole”.

“I’ve realized that even when the little things aggravate you and seem really big and monumental, or even very public within your own circle and you just wish you could hide your problems, you just can’t lose your cool,” she said.

“Be nice through all of it. That’s always when I feel the best, no matter what. Go put it out in some private corner and then show up and just be good to everyone.”

Sound advice, we feel.
