The Dyson team used a digital motor to create a phenomenon known as a Coanda effect, which – not to get too scientific – “occurs when a high-speed jet of air flows across a surface, and, due to differences in pressure, the air flow attaches itself to the surface. This then attracts, wraps and curls hair around the barrel.”

Using that knowledge, Dyson’s team of aerodynamists found a way to style hair using only air and heat.
