There will always be a special place in our hearts – and our make-up bags – for foundation.

That being said, some mornings we just need a slick of something lighter on our skin – especially in the warmer months (which already feel like a distant dream), or when our face needs a break from heavier make-up.

And it turns out we’re not alone, with a highly addictive make-up thread on Reddit revealing people’s favourite beauty products for using in place of foundation – many of which are cult favourites renowned across the globe.

The thread, started by the excellently-named user Sass-quatch_Mcgee, is titled “Best ‘don't want to wear foundation today’ products?” and invites users to comment on their favourite skin products “that either work without foundation or boost/even your skin”.

There have been almost 100 comments and products recommended by foundation-averse make-up lovers so far, and below we have rounded up our pick of five of the best, for those foundation-free days.

MAC Strobe Cream

Reddit users rave about MAC’s strobe cream. “I love the kind of illumination and glow it gives my skin!!” user okcurr says. “Anytime I order from MAC's website, I select the little strobe cream sample and stock up on them for those days.”

“Came here to say this. Strobe cream for life,” adds user Mausbarchen.
