“Oh Ambassador, you are spoiling us!” The brilliant responses to the luxury tax on sanitary towels and tampons

Female sanitary products are still considered ‘luxury’ items after MPs voted against removing the "tampon tax" this week.

And yet, jaffa cakes, helicopters and bingo games are subject to zero VAT because they are deemed as "essential".

In response to this illogical ruling, women have taken to social media to show just how luxurious sanitary pads and tampons are.

From wrapping them up as Christmas presents to serving them on a platter, the responses have been both hilarious and thought-provoking.

In the UK women’s sanitary goods are currently taxed at five per cent, the lowest permitted rate under EU rules (most products are taxed at 20 per cent).

On Tuesday, politician Stella Creasy explained why tampons are not 'luxury' items, saying that they "have always been considered a luxury. That isn't by accident. That's by design of an unequal society in which the concerns of women are not treated as equally as the concerns of men."

Take a look at some of the brilliant responses to the tampon tax on the internet below.
