There are a few golden rules to follow when braiding your hair. Award-winning hair stylist and braid bar owner Luke Hersheson says, "Wash your hair the night before, as the hair’s natural oils will help the braid stay in place."

To get your hair into a braid, Luke recommends a spritz of water; "Water can also help to tame your hair into a braid. If your hair has a natural wave, wet it slightly before braiding to make it easier to manage."

And finally, to keep the braid in place, hair grips and hair spray will be your best friends. Luke explains, "High-quality grips are a must for keeping braids in place. Then finish with a mist of hairspray."
