Nearly all of us have fallen foul of a headache and worse, following too many drinks after a night out. But what exactly is the sure-fire way to get rid of a hangover?
Well, without abstaining totally and opting to be the designated driver, there really isn't one fix-all solution.
But thanks to the team at Greatist.com, all the most commonly used and successful recovery methods have been put into a handy infographic - perfect for the morning after the night before.
So what do they advise?
For starters, you need to eat right before heading out. Lining the stomach with healthy carbs such as brown rice or pasta is a great way to start. Add in some asparagus too, as the amino acids and minerals in the greens stalks are one of the keys to preventing the dreaded nausea and headache combo.
When you're out, match your alcoholic drinks with a glass of water, that way you'll stay hydrated and will feel much less worse in the morning. Another tip when you're at the bar is to ensure that you don't drink dark alcohol.
Red wine and whiskey contain congeners which can contribute to some hangovers, but if you go for white or clear liquids you could reduce the effects. Other substances that have fewer congeners are the more expensive alcohol products, so head for the premium options rather than the cheap stuff.
Champagne and any other bubbly is also best avoided (sob!) as research has shown that alcohol with bubbles can cause your body to absorb alcohol more readily.
Upon returning home, it's time to drink more water and ensure that you're fully hydrated to avoid that gross dry mouth and headache situation come the morning. When your body gets dehydrated it will draw any water it can from other parts of the body, which includes the brain.
Also, try not to take a painkiller in the morning or even the night before as mixed with alcohol it can do damage to the liver, and is thought that it doesn't help to remedy the hangover anyway.
More tips for the morning: take some vitamins, drink some juice, eat an egg and just breathe, as oxygen helps to break down the alcohol.
We'll definitely do all of this when we're out on Saturday night and three tequila shots down. No, yeah, we totally will.
