How did you dry your hair this morning? Perhaps you used a great clunking piece of metal the weight of a fax machine. Perhaps you wrestled with said chunk of metal until your right bicep went tingly. Then numb. Perhaps it took you twenty seven minutes to get your hair nearly dry before it got sucked back up into the back of the machine.

The machine always wins, you see. It was for these reasons that I myself have sworn off hairdryers for the last three years. I’m a frequent hair washer, and frankly, I hadn’t the time (or the bicep stamina) to go through these oddly archaic motions four times a week. I owned a hairdryer. But it sat, motionless and tangled in its own flex, under my dressing table.

That was until, one day last week, when I was one of the lucky first people around the world to try Dyson’s ‘fast, focused and intelligent’ hair dryer. That’s right – the British company that has revolutionised hoovers, air fans and hand dryers – has turned its gaze towards the beauty world.

And it’s magnificent. Well, it should be: Dyson has sunk £50million and four years of work into the development the Dyson Supersonic, battling through 600 prototypes and using 1010 miles of human hair to nail the final product.
