Make-up artist Tom Pecheux proved glitter on the lips can be both striking and sophisticated

It’s no longer enough to swipe a lipstick over your mouth and walk out the door, if the latest show stopping lip look at Brandon Maxwell is anything to go by.

Maxwell cast personal friends of his in his latest show, that saw the likes of Mayowa Nicholas, Adwoa Aboah, Gigi and Bella Hadid, hit the runway with a universally wearable matt phone box red lipstick worn with a twist. What made this look memorable was the gold glitter line that weaved its way around the cupids bow and could be seen twinkling at the bottom centre of the lip line, too.

The ‘Lip Kit’

Impactful yet surprisingly wearable – there was not one model in the shows diverse line-up who wasn’t able to pull this look off.

Make-up artist Tom Pecheux created his ‘gold thread effect’ by using an angled eyebrow brush to line the lips with a yet to be released Mac creamy sparkly glossy gold pigment in Prosper.

He topped this with Mac Glitter in Gold, £16.50, before filling in the lips with Mac Lip Pencil in Cherry, £14, leaving a thin subtle strip of gold peaking out.

To finish Pecheux usd a lip brush to apply Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Feels So Grand, £18, and topped the centre of the lip with a subtle pop of more Mac Glitter in Gold ‘to create the illusion of fullness that you’d only otherwise achieve by injection,’ explains Pecheux.

Pecheux teamed this true red lip with an abundance of mascara, ‘finish the tube’ he told his team of make-artists backstage. Skin was hyper-real, think barely there foundation applied where needed and minimal powder dusted over the T-zone.

A touch of contour was used to accentuate the cheekbones and a subtle highlight adorned the tops of cheeks. Follow suit if you want your lips to do the talking, and with this look look they certainly will.
