Lisa Eldridge’s latest range will upgrade your office lipstick game, plus convince any matte lipstick-hater to convert thanks to her innovative velvet formula.

Internationally renowned make-up artist Lisa Eldridge, who is best known for painting the faces of Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss and Jennifer Lopez – and has more than 1.8 million YouTube subscribers – has created a cream-meets-powder formula with a finish inspired by the softest velvet. She spoke exclusively to Stylist about what makes the Ultimate Red Collection so special.

Why did you choose this finish?

I had a dream about a lipstick that was made out of real velvet fabric one night, years ago. I remember thinking that, if it was possible to recreate that in real life, it would be a visual feast.

What’s so special about it?

This type of effect with lipstick has never been attempted before. The actual formulation creates a very rich, creamy, moisturising and true-to-life colour in one swipe. It has an extremely subtle and light reflective sheen – like velvet fabric has when it moves – so your lips never look or feel dry.

Why did you only launch three shades of red?

Velvet and red are so entwined. In my mind I had vintage theatre chairs and glamorous Hollywood gowns. Red symbolises power, defiance and strength and so I wanted to create the ultimate collection of reds that would work on all skintones.
