MAC has partnered up with make-up legend Terry Barber to create a 15-shade eyeshadow palette. Here’s what you need to know about the exciting collaboration…

After 25 years in the make-up industry, it’s fair to say that Terry Barber is an expert. In 1993, Barber landed a job with MAC cosmetics at a Harvey Nichols counter. Over the years, he worked his way up MAC to become Director of Makeup Artistry for the UK and Europe. He’s led countless fashion shows – creating some fierce looks along the way, and knows the products better than anybody else.

So what better way to mark two and a half centuries at MAC than an eyeshadow palette filled with shades handpicked by Barber? The MAC x Terry Barber Eye See Eyeshadow Palette is a celebration of Terry’s make-up must-haves, and considering how many faces he’s worked on, you know a lot of thought has gone into the colour selection.

Barber says, “After 25 years of applying MAC to people’s faces I’ve learnt a thing or two about the language of eye make-up and all the attitudes it expresses. This is a ‘greatest hits’ of my MAC favourites but also a celebration of the timeless style movements that I’ve experienced over many decades of being a make-up artist.”

And the best bit? You’ll make use out of every shade in there.

Barber told Stylist, “I thought, I don’t want one of those palettes where there’s something in it that a woman would never wear. So there’s no blue, because let’s be honest no-one wears it in real life.”

Refreshingly, Barber acknowledges the difference between high fashion and day-to-day beauty, making him decide to leave those harder-to-wear colours behind; “There are things that get used in fashion and editorials - those really cold greys - and I just thought that would just make someone feel tired.”

To help users navigate the palette, Barber has categorised the 15 shades into five groups; A Bit Grungy, Wild Child, Gram Glam, 70’s Pin-Up and Stripped Down 90’s. However, he encourages everyone to be as simple or creative as they like.

“I never really like eyeshadow palettes that look like you have to wear all of the shades at once. I like the ones where you could just wear a single colour in an easy way.”

The MAC x Terry Barber Eye See Eyeshadow Palette is available exclusively from Selfridges for £49.50.
