Stylist’s senior beauty writer breaks down her surprising new favourite product for dewy, awake-looking skin.
In my opinion, a failsafe bronzer is just as much of a household staple as plain flour or a value-size pack of PG Tips. Versatile and hardworking, bronzer creates the instant glow that emulates living life in frequent contact with sunshine and sleep. No, I do not know that life but, give me five minutes with the Dr Hauschka Translucent Bronzing Tint and you would think I regularly get eight hours of kip on a Mediterranean beach.
For slightly sallow, yellow-undertoned mixed-race skin like mine, bronzer can lift and refresh the complexion in a more subtle way than blusher – the brown, golden tones already found within my skin. That is until I found the Tower 28 Beach Please Luminous Tinted Balm in shade ‘Golden Hour’.
Designed to be used on the lips, cheeks, or anywhere you want, the orange-based cream blush does look frightfully bright in the palette. Almost neon in appearance, it sat untouched in my make-up bag for a few months until, one day, I thought – what’s the worst that can happen?
Adding warmth and life to the skin, it blends incredibly easily, buffing out to a softly diffused, natural-looking pigment. Described by the brand as “sun-kissed orange”, it’s an almost exact colour match to those fiery holiday sunset pictures clogging up our iCloud accounts.
The orange-red undertones mean that, for the first time since the age of 15, I’ve been regularly going without bronzer. Instead, I’ve been using Beach Please to create the viral ‘W’ blusher trend and mimic having been on a short holibobs abroad. Easy to use – fingers, brushes or a beauty blender all work exceptionally well – it can be built up or pared down for a daring or subtle pop of colour.
A staple in my current dewy skin line-up, I know that it’ll become a must-take on holiday, too. Available in five other shades, I consider this my secret to an awake-looking face. Thanks, T-team.
