Markus Lupfer is famed for giving everyday staples a sophisticated twist and now he’s extended his vision to designing Shu Uemura’s new make-up range. He gave Stylist his tips for honing your look and talked us through the limited edition palettes he designed for the cult Japanese brand.

Step 1: Twist on classics
Inject fun back into your wardrobe by introducing bright jumpers and embellished knitwear. They’re classics, and easy to wear, but add personality to daywear.
Step 2: Ditch the fear
When you get dressed, or apply your make-up the person you should be looking to please is yourself. It’s easy to overthink things, but go with your first instinct – there is no wrong or right.
Step 3: Go for colour
Pastels and colour are huge again this season. Go for bold shades in eyes, nails, bags and shoes. It’s the little accents that stand out, rather than big blocks of colour.
Each Markus Lupfer-designed empty palette costs £10, then you fill it with the precise combination of eyeshadows (£11 each) and Shu Uemura's famous 'glow on' blushers (£16), to create a bespoke combination that's personal to you. Marcus put together three different palettes to show us how easily you can mix and match to create different looks.
"For this palette I wanted to create something that would take a women’s make up from day time to night time. I choose a pale bone colour (P310) which can be used with all the other colours, as a base or alone. Pastels are very on-trend this season, so I choose a baby blue (P611) which can be used during the day, then for evening you can use the darker black shade (P995). To create a smokey eye, finish off with the glittery gold on top."
"Peach and pink shades were seen all the shows and this is the perfect colour for cheeks this season – it make you look girly and cheeky when it's just on the apples of the cheeks (Glow On M345). To complement the peachy cheeks I chose neutral shades of brown which will work perfectly with the cheek colour (pressed eye shadows in IR810 and ME856)."
"This is probably my favourite palette; again go with a peachy cheek (Glow On P530), Apply the natural colour all over the eyelid (M813) then play with the silver glitter eye shadow on the lid also (G Silver) I love this silver glitter, is like a loose glitter which reminds me of the sequins I use on my jumpers."
