“Kush Mascara by Milk Makeup is so good and requires minimal effort,” says Billie. Here are the products making beauty on-the-go a breeze.
We’re all busier than ever, as is guest editor Billie Piper. On top of hectic schedules, we’re commuting for 58 minutes a day on average (yes, that’s each way), so it’s no surprise that 67% of women in the UK apply their make-up on public transport.
Like the rest of us, Billie is on the hunt for products that are portable, multitasking and, most importantly, quick to apply – and that’s where her longtime friend Zanna Roberts Rassi, the co-founder of Milk Makeup, comes in.
“Life is complex enough,” says Rassi, “Make-up should not be.”
Since its launch in 2016 (and in the UK earlier this year), Milk has become synonymous with stick products. “It’s the most seamless way to apply make-up,” Rassi explains. “Just apply it directly. I call it ‘beaut-ility’.”
Rassi often shares Instagram videos showcasing quick one-handed tutorials.
“Once, I got off a plane at LAX and went straight to a meeting. I held my phone as a mirror and did my whole face – oil, base, brows, bronzer, highlighter, mascara, lips: the lot.”
Here are her top five products for a commuter-friendly makeover.
1. For the skin
“Cooling Water, £20.50, contains caffeine and also has a high mineral moisture content so it soothes skin. I pop it on under my eyes to de-puff – especially when I’m on a flight. Another tip: if you feel hot, roll it over pulse points like your wrists and the back of the neck – it’s super cooling.”
2. For the base
“When it comes to applying make-up on public transport, I cannot stress how seamless Flex Foundation Stick, £30, is. We replaced silicones traditionally found in stick foundations with butters, so it glides across your face. It also contains marshmallow root powder to give it a bounce, so it doesn’t cake or crease.”
3. For the face
“You can do a whole face in two minutes with Lip + Cheek sticks, £20.50 – I swear! They all contain mango, avocado and a combination of coconut butters to melt onto your skin. Swipe it on cheeks and eyelids and pat in with your fingers. For lips, I literally kiss the actual stick.”
4. For the eyes
“Before I fly out the door, I apply Kush Mascara, £20.50. The first mascara to infuse hemp-derived CBD, it also has thickening heart- shaped fibres (as opposed to linear) to plump lashes and pure pigments for an intense black finish. Without it I look like a frog.”
5. For the lips
“I use Kush Lip Balm, £13.50, daily. I think we’ve created the holy grail of lip balms. It hydrates and leaves behind a little sheen on your lips. Plus, it’s called Green Dragon because we’re green in thinking, green in ingredients and it’s green in colour [though goes on clear].”
