In today’s most bizarre news story, O2 has revealed its latest innovation in the wearable tech arena: a nail extension with built-in mobile technology.

Joining forces with inventor Sean Miles and beauty brand Nails Inc, O2 have created a collection of nails and accompanying finger jewellery embedded with mobile technology, so you can communicate simply by lifting your finger to your face. The nails can be customised with a series of designs by Nails Inc, ensuring they match the rest of your manicure seamlessly, and even come with an in-built speaker for playing music.

While this may sound like a strong case of technology overload, studies have shown 56% of the population are excited about augmenting and adapting the human body via technology. And 41% of us would consider an implant for monitoring health, while 23% of us would get on board for the purposes of unlocking a door.

So there you have it – you can now literally talk to the hand.

If you fancy making a cuti-call (sorry) just pop into the Nails Inc nail bar at Harvey Nichols, London, to test it out for free. But hurry, because testing ends on Sunday 24 December and there is no word yet on when this service will be available.
