Just when you thought flower crowns were over, they come back bigger and better than ever before

It might have been the rainiest day of New York Fashion Week so far – it went from 34 degree heat a few days ago right down to 14 degrees today – but Rodarte’s SS19 show well and truly brought some sunshine to an otherwise grey day.

Models wore flower crowns on the Rodarte runway

And no, your eyes aren’t deceiving you: there really are extravagant flower crowns placed artfully on every models’ head. Just when we all thought flower crowns were over, Rodarte decided to bring them back with a bang.

The romantic, floral hair was the brainchild of Odile Gilbert for Tresemme, who teamed up with flower designer Joseph Free. Each model had a different look, “there are no rules,” he said backstage.

Rodarte got the Gen-Z yellow memo

Make-up was lead by James Kalidos using Nars Cosmetics. Kalidos was influenced by the Picasso exhibition at the Tate Modern that he visited a few weeks ago.

“I met with Lauren and Kate [Mulleavy, Rodarte’s designers] before the shows and the clothes are very frilly and have shape. They reminded me of these Picasso portraits and so we all were just in sync with this modern art feeling,” he said.

Pink roses paired with pink eyeshadow at Rodarte’s SS19 show

“The look is inspired by strong, abstract shapes – that’s why we’re using blue, yellow and pink eyeshadow,” he explained. “I didn’t want the edges to be too hard, so I used a rounded Nars shadow brush to press the colour on, and then blended it to the outer corner so it has a gradation effect.”

Somebody pass us a palette and a bunch of flowers because we can’t wait to recreate this in the office.
