Pat McGrath is one of the most legendary make-up artists of all time, and so it made sense for her to launch her own beauty line, Pat McGrath Labs, earlier this year. Thanks to her towering industry reputation and army of Instagram fans, the Labs’ first product – a limited edition, hyper-pigmented gold eyeshadow – sold out online almost instantly; the same thing happened for the parrot-bright eye shades, opalescent highlighters and bejewelled lip kits that followed.
Fittingly for a woman who made her name sticking latex pearls and vinyl lips onto models’ faces in the 1990s, this is not the place for those seeking the softly-softly natural look.
And so it’s safe to say that McGrath Labs’ next release will prompt the same mad dash for the online checkout. ‘Metalmorphosis 005’ is a range of metallic, holographic eyeshadows in silver, bronze, gold and copper – and just LOOK at it.
No, seriously, look at it.
The Metalmorphosis 005 Everything Kit is made up of four metallic pigments, four metallic creams, a black dual-ended eyeliner and a mixing liquid that creates a mesmerising, molten effect when blended with the pigments.
At $165 (around £132), it’s not cheap – but we can dream.
You can also pick up one eyeshadow shade and liner for $60 (about £48), or the liner alone for $24 (£19).
Over the course of her decades-long career McGrath has worked with the world’s biggest fashion magazines, designers, photographers and beauty brands, from Vogue to Louis Vuitton to Helmut Newton and Max Factor. Photographer Steven Meisel rarely works without her, Kate Moss relies on her beauty prowess, and Anna Wintour has described her as “the most influential make-up artist in the world”.
The Metalmorphosis 005 range drops on patmcgrath.com on Tuesday. Cards at the ready…
