Thankfully, Umberto Giannini have come up with seven different hairstyles. Model Tali Lennox rather helpfully has stepped in to showcase the styles, using their product Backcomb in a Bottle. Our favourite is this textured look but see more party-ready 'dos here.

Glitter is set to be a popular trend over the coming weeks for obvious reasons - after all, who doesn't love a bit of seasonal sparkle? We've spotted a chic and grown-up way to wear the trend in Chanel's film for the new Nuit Infinie Christmas make-up collection: flashes of iridescence were created on the model's eyes using reflective bronze shades of Illusion D'Ombre paired with Mascara Gel Irisé - a sparkling mascara top coat.

With limited daylight hours and a lack of sun to boot, dull skin and clogged pores are often unfortunate side-effects of the season-change into autumn. Give your skin a hydrating recharge with an old-fashioned DIY steam - all you need is a bowl of hot water and a towel, while this recipe recommends adding fresh herbs or herbal tea bags for an added lift. You're destined to look like a Pretty Woman afterwards!

Bored of the top knot? Take a tip from Roksanda Ilincic's SS14 show and illuminate a classic ponytail with a statement hair bow. Hairstylist Luke Hersheson used oversized neoprene bows on low understated ponys to match Roksanda's feminine collection theme; the rest of the hair was kept matte and slightly undone to suit the fuss-free vibe.

If you have your eye on a little strapless or backless number for the approaching party season, make use of the coming weeks and give your back a bit of extra attention. Our backs contain many key lymph nodes, and stimulation of these nodes encourages the production of fresh healthy skin. Book in for the specialist Back Beautifying Detox Treatment by Hydrafacial at Karidis MediSpa in London (£130; karidis.co.uk) for an intensely purifying treat, or do an at-home detox by exfoliating regularly using a long-handled exfoliation brush and a hydrating moisturiser.

Always envied the Olsen twins' hair? Well it turns out their glossy A-list locks are easier to achieve than one would expect (sort of). Speaking to thecoveteur.com, celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend revealed a (now, not-so) secret hair conditioner recipe that we can copy too: "I recently made up a conditioner for the girls to take with them on their vacations... it was coconut oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, and vitamin E. All things I picked up at the health food store! They use it a couple times a week and leave it in for up to an hour."

We’re looking out for beauty notes in Salvatore Ferragamo’s new Walking Stories short film series, which goes live today. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, who also directed Tilda Swinton in I Am Love, the slightly surreal romantic comedy stars ex-Skins actress Kaya Scodelario and Lauren Hutton who plays her aunt (amazing!). Filmed on location in LA, Florence and Shanghai, we’ve already spotted Kaya with a pretty halo braid, so here’s hoping there’s a new beauty look for each destination.

Once again Chantecaille is using beauty as a force for change, this time highlighting the global decline in honey bee populations around the globe with the launch of its Save Our Bees eye palette for spring 2014. While the pretty quartet of soft pastel shades (which includes an eye-brightening, sheeny blue hue called Sky which opens up the peepers when used on the inner corners of the eyes), drew audible murmurs of approval when we were introduced to it today by Chantecaille founder Sylvie Chantecaille, the golden-bee-embellished palette is also intended as an everyday reminder of just how precious honey bees are to the world. Proceeds from the Save Our Bees palette will go to bee conservation initiatives. Find out more about Chantecaille's Charitable Efforts at chantecaille.com

As autumn commences take a tip from tanning expert James Read, who interpreted this season's punk fashion trend into tanning terms: skin should look 'real' and 'raw' yet still 'beautifully flawless' - as seen at Todd Lynn's AW13 show (pictured). So, how to that translate the look into real life? After prepping skin with a light coat of gradual tan, buffed in with a tanning mitt, James recommends a strategic application of highlighter (for LFW he created an exclusive Tan Top Coat formula): "For the finishing touch, press...onto the arms, legs and tops of cheekbones for hyper-real shine." Pale becomes interesting. Shop James Read's products online at jamesreadtan.com

Daniel Hersheson is putting haircuts back on the agenda after seasons of the non-haircut haircut (e.g. those glossy, tumbling locks sported by countless celebrities). Taking inspiration from decades past, the Hersheson team have come up with a menu of eight great cuts. From a gamine schoolboy cut, to Stevie Nicks-style 'artfully hacked-up layers', and a modern Mod-inspired look (pictured), each strong cut serves a base to be tweaked and perfected to fit the wearer. Although it's getting increasingly difficult to get up in the mornings (it's so dark already!), getting some proper shut-eye during a busy week seems to be equally as taxing. There's been a new focus on the skincare benefits of getting a proper, undisturbed night's sleep of late - which makes Neom's 3-step Tranquility Package a worthy investment (individually priced; from £15 at neomorganics.com). Light the lavender-scented candle a couple of hours before bed; take a relaxing Tranquility Bath-infused soak, then spritz your room and bedding with the Tranquility Mist. Ahh, we're drifting off already...

It's a week for new beauty trends it seems, as word reaches us that ombré or dip-dye hair colour is out and tortoiseshell, or the new Ecaille treatment from top hair colourist Jo Hansford, is in. Already spotted on celebs such as Jessica Alba (pictured rocking the style below), Scarlett Johansson and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Ecaille (or le ecaille, which means tortoiseshell in French), is a softer take on ombré that works with your natural hair colour and skintone to leave your mane glossy and your face brightened. Just what the (hair) doctor ordered as we head into autumn. Find out more at johansford.com

If you're one of those that loves to spa but hates all the enforced relaxation and padding around in massive terry-cloth robes, perhaps the new spa trend is for you. Traditional Russian banya spas have been singled out as one of the top spa and wellness trends for 2013. But you can forget about the camomile tea - treatments include getting lightly thwacked with aromatic oak or birch leaves to help improve blood circulation! The Banya No 1 spa in London is currently leading the way, although we're definitely excited about this Russian invasion.

Knowing how quickly we've taken Scandinavian food, fashion and television into our hearts, it seems those canny Scandis are hoping that there's room enough for their beauty brands too, as luxury Swedish skincare brand, Verso, launched this week. The line boasts a potent Retinol 8 formula, which includes in its ingredients a new Vitamin A derivative (the first to be available without prescription), that can help to stimulate the production of collagen - essential for maintaining youthful skin. While Retinol can often cause irritation and cannot be worn in sunlight, Verso aims to change all that with its new five-piece line. Prices start from £32; available at selfridges.com.

We've heard the whispers but make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury gave a definitive nod to the return of lip liner. Skin looking tired and pasty rather than fresh and perky? Take a tip from Shiseido's creative director Dick Page, who has a hilarious way of saying skip the concealer and reach for blusher instead: "If you think you look like sh*t, put on blush. Don’t sweat the concealer," Page told Style.com. "There is this mythology that if you’re not dark under the eyes, you’ll look well—you won’t, that’s just not how it works. You want to look like you’ve been shagged, or you’ve had a run, or something good is going on in your life, which concealer doesn’t do." Try Guerlain's new illuminating Madame Rougit 4-colours Blush (£42; available at selfridges.com) for that 'good time' glow.

While the past few seasons have been a hotbed of big blousy blooms, it seems spring/summer 2014 will be the turn for timid little flowers: fashion designer Christopher Kane focused on buttercups and carnations for his SS14 collection, and both Odile Gilbert at Zac Posen and James Pecis at Honor (pictured) used small, but perfectly formed, floral decorations to adorn models' hair.

Gothic romance was the inspiration behind the beauty look at the Marchesa New York Fashion Week show - and we can tell. Make-up artist Gucci Westman and celeb manicurist Jin Soon Choi paired deep berry lips with a pretty lavender nail polish (Jin used Revlon Nail Enamel in Charming; £6.49 at superdrug.com). Black mascara is pretty standard in most of our make-up bags, but, according to Lancôme's handy Eye Beauty Atelier tips, coloured mascara can be key to making eyes pop. The number one rule? Choose a colour that does not appear in your iris: 'If your iris is brown (a warm shade), choose a navy blue mascara (a cool shade), and vice versa for blue eyes. If your iris is green, choose a burgundy mascara as burgundy contains red pigments, and red complements green.' And to really enhance the eyes, co-ordinate your eyeliner or eyeshadow with your mascara colour for maximum impact.

A dip into the archives revealed this little gem: Rachel McAdams rocking pastel pink streaks and an awesome, chin-grazing swingy bob at the Screen Actors Guild Awards way back in 2007 (she was still dating Ryan Gosling!). Having been photographed a couple of weeks before the event with mid-shoulder length hair, Rachel's decision to go for the chop is what really gives this look its trend-setting appeal.

It's Organic September: the month in which the Soil Association challenges us to make a small change in our everyday lives, in order to make a big difference in food and farming. Just as supermarket shelves are filling up with organic alternatives, so too have effective organic beauty products become more readily available (look for the Soil Association or EcoCert labels). Stick with the SA's ethos of making a small change, and switch the products you use the most, or which cover the largest area, to organic. Think: shower gels, lip balms, face creams, body lotions and scrubs, or hand creams - like Neom's uplifting Moroccan Blush Rose Organic Hand Lotion (£18; available at neomorganics.com), made with organic ingredients.

Back to the US Open once again (Brit Laura Robson is ripping up a storm!), and under discussion: is the braid, specifically the double braid, the best way to wear your hair during a workout? Hairstylist Julien Farel, who has a salon located exclusively at the Open, thinks so. Well at least for this season: "We’ve done braids before, but this [season] I really liked it," Farel told Style.com. "For the Met Ball, I styled a couple of people [where I incorporated a plait into a] mohawk, and I thought it would be a great look for the US Open, especially for [players] that have shorter hair or layered hair, because you can fit everything in and lock it." Like Farel, hairstylist and Herbal Essences ambassador Charles Baker Strahan advises doubling up: "Braiding the top makes the tail move as one solid piece rather than swinging in front of your face." And, finally, leave a portion of the hair loose at the end, like Ana Ivanovic (pictured) to make hair look thick and luscious.

Sports fans, the US Open has kicked off in fine style (although not for the UK's Heather Watson who was unfortunately knocked out in the first round *sad face*). Yet as much as we enjoy watching the games, we're also on the look-out for beauty pointers too - like this tonal pink braid (and matching nails) sported by former number one Venus Williams following her match against Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens. Yes, she's more than just great hair; but what great hair.

Revlon's new ColourBurst lip glosses - available in Embellished, Adorned and Bejewelled (pictured, left to right) - have fast become a favourite with us, thanks to their highly-pigmented pops of colour that are glossy without being overly sticky. Often seen as the less sophisticated cousin of proper lipstick - how best to make lip gloss grown-up rather than girlish? It's all about the skin, says Gucci Westman, Revlon's Global Artistic Director. "It’s all about keeping the skin very sheer, luminous, and fresh looking - don’t use a lot of powder or foundation, " advises Westman. "[Leave] the skin super fresh and natural. The contrast needs to be there." Revlon ColourBurst LipGloss, £7.99 each; available at boots.com.

While Jason Wu's new Lancôme make-up line is currently only available in the States (boo!), we can take a tip from the fashion designer when it comes to his choice of mascara colour for the collection: "Who doesn’t want navy mascara?" he remarked in an interview with Style.com. "Navy is a colour that looks good on everyone, and I use it all the time [for my runway collections]. To me, it’s the chicer cousin to black. It just felt like something women would want and all the girls I work with will want. It’s a really interesting twist on a classic." Let's get twisting!

Ooh, we're loving Beyoncé's new sun-kissed pixie cut which she debuted on her Instagram account yesterday. Equally as surprised as the rest of the world though was Bey's go-to hairstylist, Kim Kimble, who had a retro-inspired look planned for a weekend video shoot with the singer. “I had a whole plan laid out... I wanted to do a retro 50s type of hair," Kimble told People. "I feel like there’s going to be a meeting soon! Take some ear bling inspiration from the Studded Hearts blogger Yenny who favours a pretty mix of delicate studs and small earrings.

Has the nail art backlash has begun? According to reports on fashion industry bible WWD this week, the growth of nail art sales has slowed considerably, while influential tastemakers, such as fashion designer Marc Jacobs - who has declared 'clear' his favourite polish colour - are taking a hiatus from distracting nail art designs. Case in point, Peter Philips choose to go with clear nails at Chanel Couture's a/w '13 show (pictured) to off the brand's spectacular rings.

More hair news this week comes courtesy of Bleach London: apparently the, erm, 'downstairs dye' is now big news. "We put it on the menu for a bit of fun but it’s getting to be quite popular, especially because of the summer," explained owner Alex Brownsell to nymag.com. Adding: "We’ve done multi-colour [downstairs dyes], pink and blue hearts — hearts are very popular — tie-dye, and leopard print." To find out more or book at bleachlondon.co.uk.

Ok, so we may be old enough to remember the 90s (very clearly) the first time around, but we couldn't help but let out a squeal of girlish delight at seeing these new Charmsies hair decorations, hot from LA! Available now at BeautyMART (£9.50 per pack; thisisbeautymart.com), choose from gold hearts, silver pyramids or hot pink stars. Scatter throughout the hair for a sweet touch, as seen on Nashville star Hayden Panettierre, or use to adorn top knots, ponytails and braided 'dos. How charming.

Happily, ASOS is currently carrying a selection of pretty hair brooches to help us achieve the look - minus the designer price tag.

Lady Gaga chose an artistic, smeared make-up look for the artwork of her new single, Applause (out 19 August), shot by photography duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. However, it's unsurprising Gaga chose to base the look on the famous Pierrot clown: since the 19th-century, the Pierrot has become symbolic of the alter-ego of the alienated or misunderstood artist. How apt.

Getting our hands on the new Marc Jacobs beauty line may involve a trip to New York, but we can at least take some beauty inspiration from Sephora's teaser picture for the August 9th on-sale date, which features Edie Campbell modelling an intensely colourful look.

Some women love their perfume to linger long after they've left the room; for others, subtlety is key. If you like a softly, softly approach to perfume wearing, take a tip from Olivia Chantecaille, creative director of Chantecaille Cosmetics, who revealed to Style.com that she was initiated into the world of fragrance by her French mother and grandmother: "They showed me how to lightly spritz it on the back of my neck, right under my hair, so it would never be overwhelming. That way, the fragrance transforms and becomes your own, never smelling the same on two different people." Sometime less is indeed more.

Summer hair inspiration comes courtesy of TIGI's International Creative Director, Nick Irwin, who created this Indian-inspired, decorative hair look for the Mara Hoffman catwalk show during Miami Swim Fashion Week. Here's how to perfect the look yourself: spritz dry hair with Catwalk by TIGI Your Highness Weightless Shine Spray and straighten flat. Then, create a slick centre-parting using Catwalk by TIGI Sessions Series Wet Look Gel to add shine and smooth flyaways. After securing a low-ponytail at the back of the head, plait in a tight fishtail braid, then finish with hairspray. Embellish with pom-poms and raffia twists.

If ever there was a model defined by her hair colour it's rebellious Californian Chloe Nørgaard, who bleaches and dyes her own hair in colours ranging anywhere from blue to a fire-inspired mix of red, orange and yellow. We're loving this rainbow-hued look she sports in the current Benetton campaign.

Summer is a great time to be brave and try out bright eye colours. Coloured liners are an easy way to experiment, while using a liner brush dipped in an eye gel or shadow is ideal for creating a bold look. For a really strong eye, celeb make-up artist Louise Young recommends using the 'double line' trick: "One tip for an intense look is to 'double line' - go very close to the lashes with a fine black liner first then overlay the pop colour with a thicker line. This will give a deeper colour on the lash line and brighter one above. Wear with a nude lip, minimal makeup and a flawless complexion."

Forget anti-ageing face creams, according to beautician Kristie Streicher, who tends the brows of Julia Roberts, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz among others, a youthful visage is all in the eyebrows: "I found most women in my chair wanted to look younger and less tired," Streicher told Style.com. "I began seeing a significant change in the face when the eyebrows were fuller, stronger, and more abundant." Most interestingly of all, Kristie uses tweezers rather than waxing to create her signature Feathered Brow technique: "Tweezing is gentler on the skin, especially around the sensitive eye area." She advises getting a good pair of tweezers with sharp slanted edges (pictured: Tweezerman Cynthia Rowley Tweezers; £22.95 at beautybay.com) and avoiding tweezing in magnifying mirrors: "If you can’t see the hair in a regular mirror then neither can anyone else".

The recent hot weather has made us want to minimise our usual make-up routine. Instead, we're taking inspiration from this Jonathan Saunders AW12 catwalk show look, and making the most of our high-summer glow by adding a touch of illuminator (Revlon's PhotoReady Skinlights is a new fave) to our usual foundation; (bravely) skipping the mascara, and then just finishing with a bold lip for a modern twist.

Hair suffering in the heat? One Arizona hair salon has come up with an ingenious way to cool down when the mercury rises: ice shampoos. Inspired by a similar treatment used in Japan, the Snip Barber Shop in Glendale, Arizona has been cultivating its own ice shampoo method, applying a mix of crushed ice, mint and shampoo to customers' hair for an ultra-cooling hair and scalp treatment. It seems there's only one way to dress your hair these days: with a length of black ribbon. As seen recently on Uma Thurman and Nicole Kidman, work it into an artfully dishevelled up 'do or braid it into a fishtail plait.

"[She] was obsessed with top and bottom lashes." The rest of the look was left natural, with McGrath just dabbing on a touch of lip balm and grooming the models' eyebrows.
