With all the cocktail soirées, office parties and dinners with friends, the festive season certainly leaves our social diaries bursting. The secret to staying stylish for the whole of December can be as simple as switching up your hairstyle. From the quick trick that’ll transform a classic plait, to the tool that creates volume in seconds, we’ve curated five winning looks that are a doddle to master. And what’s more, it’s now easier than ever to pull them off thanks to Tangle Teezer’s power couple – the Glitter Gem Compact Styler ensures tangle-free, smooth and silky hair while the Back-Combing hairbrush creates volume, height and texture with minimal damage, whatever look you choose.

1. The twisted half-up, half-down

Wrap small sections of hair around a one-inch curling iron to create dishevelled waves. Carefully tease your roots for added oomph, then use the pointed end of the Back-Combing Brush to gather your hair from ear to ear to create a half-up, half-down look. Before securing into a ponytail, separate the hair into two sections (like pigtails) and wind each section back on itself to create a twisted shape. Once complete, secure with a snag-free elastic tie and set with a little hairspray.

PRO TIP Use the Tangle Teezer Back-Combing hairbrush to back-comb the mid-lengths and ends to create a textured beachy vibe and pop your Compact Styler in your clutch bag to stay smooth, shiny and tangle-free all-night long.

2. The luxe hair accessory

Use an ornate hair accessory to update the simplest of styles. They were a staple feature on the AW17 runways – we saw big bows at Temperley London, delicate Alice bands at Elie Saab and major bling at Chanel.

PRO TIP You’ll need to carefully back-comb the area where you intend to place the accessory to give it something to grip on to – it’ll just slide out of smooth strands. Once in, secure it with a little strong-hold hairspray.

3. The super-low bun

Using your Tangle Teezer Compact Styler, brush your hair to ensure it’s smooth and shiny, then use it to gather your hair into a low ponytail. Once you’ve secured it with a snag-free elastic, wrap the tail around itself and use hairgrips to pin it in place.

PRO TIP Back-comb your ponytail to create a voluminous bun with plenty of body. You can also use the tail of the brush to tease pieces of hair around your hairline for a soft, romantic feel.

4. The casual plait

A more relaxed take on the usual fishtail braid, this style is perfect if you’re looking for something effortless. Start by tying your hair into two loose ponytails, then split each into two separate pigtails. Start with one divided ponytail, taking a few strands of hair from one pigtail and pass it to the other pigtail. Then take a piece from this pigtail and pass it back to the original. Continue with this pattern until you reach the end of your braid. Repeat for the other ponytail, then tease out the braid to loosen it for a casual look. Update your plaits for the season by securing it with a piece of velvet ribbon or silk.

PRO TIP Use the Tangle Teezer Back-Combing hairbrush before beginning the plait to create a textured, voluminous finish. When you’re ready to untie, keep the Tangle Teezer Compact Styler hairbrush handy to brush out your hair before bed.

5. Slick it back

A little looser than the SS17 trend for slicked-back hair, the AW17 catwalk version of the style was all about effortlessly undone ends tucked behind the ears, as seen on the Giambattista Valli runway. To recreate the look, blow dry your hair, add some gel to the roots, then comb through using the Tangle Teezer Glitter Gem Compact Styler for a perfectly sleek style. Finish by tucking your hair behind your ears.

PRO TIP Once the style has set, use your Tangle Teezer Compact Styler to brush through the ends, ensuring the loose hair is smooth and shiny to really finish the look.
