Trend on trial: Are Armani's blush pink hues more bland than beautiful?

Trend on Trial is a series in which Stylist’s beauty team put the latest hair and make-up looks to the test.
Soft tones and romantic pink shadows were the centre of Armani’s s/s 2019 show, but how did this look translate in our Trend on Trial?
Lucy Partington, Stylist’s beauty editor says:
I’m not really one to blow my own trumpet, but… I look quite good here, don’t I? I’ve become pretty accustomed to wearing pink eyeshadow since I discovered Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk palette (which I’ve genuinely used every day for the past six months) but until we shot this, I’d never really thought about using a similar shade on my lips.
Even though Armani’s slightly frosted look is a bit more Nineties than I would usually like, I am feeling it. Chances are you might just clock this as my new Instagram/Twitter/ Facebook profile picture…
Hanna Ibraheem, Stylist’s beauty writer says:
I was lucky enough to see this Armani beauty look come to life at Milan Fashion Week and I instantly fell in love with it. The romantic pink hue running through the make-up topped off with icy inner corners is a dream.
Unfortunately, it took several layers of eyeshadow before the pink showed up on my skintone – and as somebody who doesn’t bother with shadow often, this was a lot of effort. That being said, I’m feeling the pink lip.
Ava Welsing-Kitcher, Stylist’s junior beauty writer says:
I usually steer clear of any saccharine pink eyeshadow, having completely overdone it with my childhood palette (remember the ones with 150 chalky shades?). But this is the grown-up way to do it.
I layered a slightly metallic shade over a deeper matte one for dimension, then swirled plummy blusher over cheeks and temples. A final touch of lipgloss over lids, cheekbones and lips brings it all together in an elegant, romantic look. Yes.
Verdict
It’s safe to say we loved this Armani look on the models, but there was some hesitation over using the pale pinks and frosty hues on ourselves. Thankfully they didn’t wash us out or make us look like our 12-year-old selves, which is a bonus. Ultimately, this is the soft and muted look we’ve been after to revamp our everyday routine.
