Trend on trial: Has Rodarte proved that florals for spring are, in fact, groundbreaking?

When the team caught sight of Rodarte’s rose crown and technicolour make-up backstage at NYFW, we knew it would make a divine Trend On Trial look. But how did it look on us?

Lucy Partington, Stylist’s beauty editor says:

Alright, I’m just going to go out there and say that I don’t think these pictures do this look justice. I know it looks good, but in real life it was even better. I do really wish I could be this extravagant every day, but since that’s not an option maybe I’ll just try wearing all the individual make-up elements instead.

I actually like the yellow eyeshadow, and that much pink blusher doesn’t enhance my already-quite-red cheeks as much as I thought. I’d say it’s a success.

Since the models at Rodarte floated down the runway with watercolour make-up and vibrant floral headpieces, it instantly became my favourite s/s 2019 beauty look.

The floral-embellished hair creates fairytale romance, the red lip is universally flattering and layers of pink blush give a pretty flush. I even managed to cast aside fears of blue eyeshadow and grew to like its ethereal charm. 10s, 10s, 10s across the board.

Ava Welsing-Kitcher Stylist’s junior beauty writer:

As soon as Lucy sent us backstage pictures from Rodarte in September, we immediately added this to our TOT list. It’s hands down my favourite look – that red lip, the romantic eyeshadow and those tumbling velvety roses.

It’s Dia de Los Muertos meets Pre-Raphaelite meets Coachella, and while pinning in the roses I was already plotting potential events to recreate it for. Do you think it might upstage the bride at a 2019 summer wedding? I don’t think so…

Verdict

Inspired by a Picasso exhibition at Tate Modern, the dreamy look at Rodarte has all the makings of a masterpiece. The delicate headpiece of roses was enough to get us excited, but throw in a pretty trio of pastel eyeshadows and a red lip and it ticks all our beauty boxes.

In fact, this look has entered our top three TOT looks of all time; big (but justified) words.
