Urban Decay is discontinuing its original Naked Palette - so we’ve done the right thing and handpicked some of our favourite eye shadow palettes to help you fill the void

Back in August ‘18, Urban Decay broke some news that left beauty obsessives across the world heartbroken: the cosmetics company were to discontinue the beloved original Naked palette.

The eye shadow palette launched back in 2010 and quickly became a global sensation, and there’s no doubt that was the start of our ever-growing obsession with eye shadow.

It’s the winning combination of 12 intensely pigmented, easy-to-blend formulas in a range of neutral shades to suit each and every skin tone that made it into such an iconic product, but don’t just take our word for it though. The proof is in the numbers and the brand says they’ve sold over 30 million units and have generated over $1 billion in sales. No mean feat.

All good things must come to an end, however - and so too must our obsession with the Naked Palette.

Taking to Instagram, Urban Decay’s founder Wende Zomnir announced: “Saying goodbye to the OG NAKED is bittersweet. We shared a history. We shared a soul. I will forever miss her, but plan to turn the grief into even more greatness. Urban Decay will continue to thrive in NAKED’s memory and honor — just wait and see.”

But, if like us here on the Stylist beauty desk, you can’t (or just aren’t prepared to) wait to see what’s in store, we’ve rounded up our favourite eye shadow palettes to help you fill that Naked Palette-shaped hole in your life.

NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette in Warm Neutrals

NYX’s eyeshadows are famed for their buttery blendability, and although this palette is a bit warmer than the original Naked palette, it does a similar job. There’s a pleasing mix of 16 satin, metallic and shimmer shades that’ll see you through every occasion and every season.

Bobbi Brown Haute Nudes Edition Palette

Granted, there aren’t as many shades in this Bobbi Brown eye shadow palette, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have just as much fun. The 10 matte, metallic, shimmer and sparkle eye shadow shades all complement each other and allow you to dial the drama up, down or whichever way you like. Plus, there really is nothing quite like a Bobbi sparkle shadow.

Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette

Impressive colour pay-off, a range of eye shadow colours that go from super pale right through to the deepest black and with a few shimmery eye shadow shades thrown into the mix for good measure, this is a good choice for anyone who fancies dipping their toe in the palette waters. Use the matte eye shadow shades as eyeliner or use the metallic ones wet - we promise you won’t be disappointed.

Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in The Golden Goddess

If you’re yet to try a Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow: where have you been? They’re a huge hit in among make-up lovers and for very good reason. Each of Tilbury’s eye shadow palettes may only have four shades, but they’ve each been very carefully selected to help you create the perfect neutral smokey eye. Our top tip? Apply the metallic eye shadow shade using the tip of your middle finger right into the centre of your eye.

Tarte Tartlette in Bloom Clay Palette

Not only satisfying to look at, but this eye shadow palette has been arranged in three rows to help you create three different eye makeup looks. The eye shadows can be used on lids, in the crease and as liner and are infused with Amazonian clay, something that helps the shades blend more smoothly and more intensely.

Urban Decay Naked Reloaded Palette

Last, but definitely not least is the Urban Decay Naked Reloaded palette. It’s a gentle nod to the palettes ancestry with the mix of soft muted tones and darker mattes. There’s even more product to build a base with as the ivory shades get extra fill. It may not be the OG, but for now it’s just right.
