Blue Monday might be here, but don’t worry, science has your back. Studies have found that the smell of a certain Japanese fruit can help ease stress and anxiety.
A study has found that Yuzu - a citrus fruit that resembles a grapefruit-mandarin hybrid - can help stabilise your mood.
The researchers concluded that the “inhalation of the aromatic yuzu oil significantly decreased emotional symptoms of anxiety, depression, hostility, and confusion, as long as 30 minutes after the olfactory stimulation.”
This is a welcome discovery considering that January, particularly Blue Monday, is widely considered the most depressing time of the year. If sniffing some citrus scents every half hour could help boost our mood, then by all means we’re here for it.
Stylist has found all the best yuzu-scented products to help fill your January with some fruity joy.
