Blogging the bonkbusters – why?

Bonkbuster. Sex and shopping novel. You know them. Fat books with thin pages, filled with the promise of designer labels, stubble-jawed heroes and exotic locations.

They’re easy to dismiss as mad and ridiculous, especially if you’re a woman who also reads literary fiction and the foreign news sections of broadsheets. But I think there may be more to them, in fact a long history of reading novels with gold-embossed lettering on the front cover means I know there’s more to them.

I think the bonkbuster is worth a closer look and that’s what this blog will do. I, and hopefully later on some guest writers and some of you, will be reading the bonk classics and seeing if there’s any more on offer than escapism. Are you with me?
