Fifty Shades of Grey left everyone well and truly flustered when it first hit shelves back in 2011, selling 10 million copies in six weeks. By the end of 2012, sales hit 70 million copies worldwide – and the salacious antics of Ana Steele and Christian Grey remain a source of fascination even now.

Now, we have good news for those who have following the series since its inception: a new installment – this time told from the perspective of Christian – is on the way.

After the roaring success of the first three novels in the erotic literature series, Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, E. L. James decided to re-tell the trilogy from Grey’s point of view.

Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told By Christian was published in 2015 on 18 June (as in, yes, Grey’s birthday), and re-told the events of the first book in which Steele initially encounters Grey’s world of BDSM.

And now Darker: Fifty Shades Darker as Told by Christian, is set to give us a new perspective on the erotic trilogy's second book.

Speaking about being given the opportunity to develop the famous character even further, James said, “The inside of Christian's head is a pretty daunting place to be.

“Writing Darker offered me new insights into his character and motivations, and I hope readers find those insights as compelling as I did.”

USA Today reports that Anne Messitte, publisher of Vintage/Anchor Books, has revealed that the new book will be “darker” and more “haunting” than ever.

“This new book is full of surprises,” Messitte says.

“Readers are going to see a darker and more haunted version of Christian’s character. Fans of the series will have much to discover and even more to discuss.”

The author has also dished some of the dirt on what the new book will entail, explaining, “The inside of Christian Grey's head is a fascinating place to be.”

“In Grey we got the first glimpse of what makes Christian tick, but in Darker we go deeper, into his most painful memories and the encounters that made him the damaged, demanding man Ana falls in love with,” said James.

“I hope readers will find what I’ve learned as compelling as I did.”

James posted the news on Twitter yesterday, simply writing, “Hello all. I'm delighted to let you know that Darker: Fifty Shades Darker as told by Christian…”

Unsurprisingly the announcement was met by a stream of over-excited GIFs and questions from fans, who can’t wait to get their hands on the novel.

For one Twitter user only high-pitched sounding noises could convey their joy, “Yes!!!! Eeekkkkkk!!!”

While another had clearly been waiting a while for the release, writing, “SO EXCITED. Thank you, especially as this is my favourite book of the series so can't wait to see particular scenes in his mind-set ?❤.”

If you want to be the first to get your mitts on Darker: Fifty Shades Darker as Told by Christian head over to Amazon where it is available to pre-order in paperback, ebook and audio form.

It will be released this November.
