It’s official: Greta Gerwig has attracted a bloody brilliant cast for Little Women

When we think of Little Women, we picture the 1994 film adaptation by Gillan Armstrong: Winona Ryder as Jo, Kirsten Dunst as Amy, Claire Danes as Beth and Trini Alvarado as Meg. Together, they were the March sisters.

But if film director Greta Gerwig has anything to do with it, come 2019 we’ll see the adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel in a very different way, comprising of: Saoirse Ronan as Jo, Florence Pugh as Amy, Eliza Scanlen as Beth and Emma Watson as Meg – and Timothée Chalamet as Theodore ‘Laurie’ Laurence.

And we’re on board – especially after Emma Watson took to Twitter to share the first look of the cast with a cool Polaroid snap.

Watson shared the Polaroid on her Twitter page, alongside a line from Little Women author Louisa May Alcott: “I could never love anyone as I love my sisters.”

In the snap, the cast look like they’re filming in the attic of the March family home – all dressed in suspenders, bows, and old-timey hats.

But we’ve yet to see other incredible cast members: Meryl Streep as Aunt March, Lauren Dern as Marmee, James Norton as John Brooke, and Bob Odenkirk and Chris Copper (it hasn’t been announced who they’ll play yet).

And, of course, Twitter has reacted with excitement.

It is always tricky to get excited about a book-to-screen adaptation, particularly when it has been done before… and well. But with such an incredible cast line-up and Gerwig directing, we’re sure it’ll be a hit.
