In October, Virago Modern Classics will release four of Daphne du Maurier’s chilling collections: The Birds, The Breaking Point, The Doll and The Rendezvous.
To celebrate this iconic writer, Stylist has teamed up with Virago to launch our very own short fiction competition. In tribute to the ‘Queen of the short story’, entries must be gothic in theme – it will be the season for the dark and macabre after all.
Works will be judged by author Stella Duffy, Stylist’s contributing literary editor Francesca Brown, Virago publisher Lennie Goodings and editorial director of Virago Modern Classics, Donna Coonan. The winning entry will be published in Stylist and on virago.co.uk.
The winner will also receive a six-day writing course with Arvon – England’s leading creative writing charity, running residential courses and retreats led by highly respected authors (arvon.org) – worth a minimum of £600, plus copies of the new du Maurier works.
