She starred in The X Files for ten years, so it's not surprising that Gillian Anderson is interested in science-fiction. And now she has written her first sci-fi novel, to be released in October.

The book is titled A Vision of Fire and co-authored by Gillian and bestselling sci-fi author Jeff Rovin. It is 320 pages long, and the plot is described as sci-fi/supernatural.

The synopsis tells us that the book is about a child pyschiatrist, Caitlin O'Hara who spots a series of links between an international nuclear incident and teenagers around the world having episodes having fits and speaking in tongues and must race across the globe to find a solution.

The novel will be part of a series called the EarthEnd Saga, with more books already planned. Gillian told US magazine Entertainment Weekly that she feels she has "an ingrained knowledge and rhythm for" science fiction after "living in a semi-science-fictional universe" thanks to her role on The X Files.

Gillian said her role on The X Files with David Duchovny gave her an "ingrained knowledge" of sci-fi

She said that "I enjoy writing, but don't usually allow myself the time, and I don't think I'd ever think to write something in this genre without the prodding of someone like Jeff. But I realised I had ideas hidden within me for a series and a lead character, in this case, a heroine."

"I also wanted a very strong female character, around my age. I would want to read something like that and I think other women would like to read … It's been a fantastic experience."

Gillian is currently starring on stage as Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Young Vic theatre in London. She will be promoting the new series of The Fall in the autumn, the hit crime drama in which she co-stars with Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan.

Her novel will be released on October 9th, and is available to pre-order on Amazon. Here's hoping Gillian will be the next big sci-fi writer.
