Celeste Ng fans, this is the news you’ve been waiting for…
Nothing pleases us more than to hear news of a great incoming book-to-film adaptation – especially when it involves Julia Roberts.
Roberts – who has a successful career spanning over 20 years – has previously voiced her decision to step away from rom-coms (so Pretty Woman 2 is definitely off the table). Maybe that’s why she’s signed onto bestselling author Celeste Ng’s latest feature film, Everything I Never Told You.
Details remain scarce, but Ng took to Twitter on Monday 21 January to reveal the news with her followers: “Good news: It’s [Everything I Never Told You] being adapted into a feature film — with Julia Roberts attached to play Marilyn!”
The novel, Ng’s 2014 debut, follows the lives of a Chinese-American family living in a small town in Ohio. After their daughter’s body is found in a local lake, the tragedy suddenly starts to rip the family apart.
Not only was it a New York Times bestseller for 47 weeks, but the book has now sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide.
The cast line up has yet to be revealed but Roberts is set to play Marilyn, the mother.
According to Deadline, Michael De Luca (The Social Network and Moneyball) is producing the film, with Julia Cox (Amazon’s The Last Tycoon) penning the screenplay.
Of course, fans of her work are excited, too.
Its’s the second bestselling book from Ng to be adapted for the screen. Little Fires Everywhere, published in 2017, is set to hit the big screen, too, thanks to Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington.
The novel follows the lives of a single mother and her daughter, who after moving to a suburban community in Ohio, sees a custody battle ensue over a Chinese-American baby.
Not only will Witherspoon and Washington star in the movie, but they’re producing it, too.
Mark your calendars. 2019 is looking up.
