Ladybird's new books for grown-ups are all our work woes

There's a new series of Ladybird books for grown-ups that perfectly nail the trifling woes of modern adults - especially anyone who's ever worked in an office.

Last year saw the launch of the hugely successful series that wittily repurposes pictures from the classic children's books so many of us grew up with to parody modern themes such as hipsters, mindfulness and online dating.



Now, a whole new batch of manuals are out in time for Christmas, authored once again by comedy writers Jason Hazeley and Joel Morris and accompanied with colourful illustrations from the original mid-20th-century favourites.

The new titles include The Ladybird Book of the Sickie, The Ladybird Book of Red Tape and The Ladybird Book of the Meeting but, as Rihanna might say, it's not all work work work work work work. They also cover zombies, students, the uncomfortable but indisputable truth about how dogs really smell, and snowflake issues thrown up by middle-class living, including noise-polluting hairdryers and pets that eat only organic.

“We’ve been fans of Ladybird since we were old enough to fall over with any dignity,” Hazeley and Morris said. “Being allowed to have fun with Ladybird’s astonishing picture archive is a ridiculous privilege - like being the official custard pie supplier to a Buckingham Palace garden party.

“It’s great to see how many people love Ladybird books as much as we do, and that it’s not only us who’d appreciate a helping hand with the baffling world of being a grown-up.”
