The former first lady’s first memoir, Becoming, will be released in November and she hopes it’ll inspire you.
November 2018 is going to be a big month for Michelle Obama. Unfortunately, she won’t be vying for presidency in the mid-term elections – that we know of, at least – but she will be releasing a “deeply personal” memoir chronicling her experiences, from her childhood to her time spent at the White House.
Writing BECOMING has been a deeply personal experience. I talk about my roots and how a girl from the South Side found her voice. I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be. I can't wait to share my story. https://t.co/d7DxEG85NK— Michelle Obama (@MichelleObama) February 25, 2018
Yesterday on Twitter, the inspirational former first lady confirmed the details of the book she’s been writing by announcing her memoir, Becoming, stating: “Writing BECOMING has been a deeply personal experience. I talk about my roots and how a girl from the South Side [of Chicago] found her voice. I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be. I can’t wait to share my story.”
Expanding on Instagram, Obama said “It has allowed me, for the very first time, the space to honestly reflect on the unexpected trajectory of my life.”
The memoir is Obama’s second book having previously published American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen and Gardens Across America in 2012. However, Becoming promises to be more than just a guarded account of her time living at the world’s most famous address and an account of “her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms.”
Her UK publisher, Penguin Random House, also announced it will “donate one million books in the Obama family’s name to First Book” a non-profit organisation that provides “new books, learning materials, and other essentials to children in need.”
The much-anticipated memoir will be released on 13 November in 24 languages worldwide, and Amazon and Waterstones are both taking pre-orders even though there are months until its release. In addition to the book launch, Obama will embark on a US and International tour – though dates and locations are yet to be announced - and you can sign-up to find out more, here.
