Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time is one of the most beloved children’s books around.

So it makes sense that Disney are bringing it to the silver screen.

The award-winning book weaves a magical story, which centres on Meg Murry, a young girl whose father, a government scientist, has gone missing after working on a mysterious project called a tesseract.

Joined by a schoolmate and her younger brother, the brave 13-year-old sets off on a journey across space and time to save him -  finding help in the form of supernatural beings, Mrs Whatsit, Mrs Who, and Mrs Which.

Unsurprisingly, Disney want to make sure that they have some serious talent to take on those all-important roles.

Who better to get on board, then, than Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, and Oprah.

Witherspoon will reportedly take on the role of Mrs Whatsit, a two-billion-year-old celestial being who (at first) looks like a grandmotherly hobo.

However, as you may suspect, there’s far more to her character than first meets the eye – and the children are later shocked by revelations about the kindly old woman.

Kaling will play Mrs Who, a bilingual being who finds it “difficult to verbalise” in her own words.

Instead, she tends to speak in famous quotes, citing the words of William Shakespeare, Pascal, Dante, Seneca, A.Perez, Horace, Cervantes, Delille, Euripides, the Bible, Goethe , and many more.

Oprah, meanwhile, is confirmed to take on the role of the mysterious Mrs Which, who is undeniably the wisest – and the leader – of the trio.

Appearing at times as a shimmering light, her knowledge of tesseract travel, and her seemingly endless supply of clues, prove invaluable to Meg on her quest.

While the talented actresses will bring A Wrinkle In Time’s iconic triumvirate to life, it seems as if Disney aren’t stopping there; they’re working hard to ensure that the movie adaptation is fuelled by girl power from all sectors.

They’ve got Selma director Ava DuVernay on board to direct the science fiction fantasy, while Frozen’s Jennifer Lee has already penned the script.

Catherine Hand, meanwhile, is producing.

There's no word yet on who will play the young heroine of the Newbery Medal-winning book, but, with production scheduled to begin this November, we imagine it won’t be too long before the entire cast is confirmed.
