How long does it take you to a read a book? Are you a speedy reader who can skim paragraphs effortlessly whilst still taking in the story, boasting that you finished the latest best-seller "in a few hours"? Or can you only devour a book properly by devoting plenty of time to every line?

Well now you can find out whether you really are a quick reader, thanks to this interesting test by American office supplies giant (and e-book seller) Staples.

The online test asks you to read a paragraph on a mock-up of an e-book, and then answer a few questions on the text (so just skimming won't get you very far), then compares your results to the US National Average to give you a speed-reading score.

We tried the test on Monday morning pre-coffee, and felt quite pleased with our result of 94% higher than the national average. Until we looked at the graph and saw we were still below 'High Level Executives', 'College Professors' and 'High Scoring College Students' (guess our skills has slipped somewhat since we graduated many years ago). Our efforts also looked feeble compared to the World Speed Reading champion (she's Anne Jones, six times winner of the World Speed Reading Championship, in case you're wondering), who can digest an impressive 4700 words per minute. We're blaming the lack of coffee on our result. And will be trying again to get a better score.
