It’s time to explore the most magical Christmas markets in London…

From traditional stalls to culinary delights and all the mulled wine a person could (and should) possibly consume, there’s no better place to spend downtime in December than at a Christmas market.

Thankfully, London has more than a fair few setting up shop this festive season. From the grand scale Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park to the decadent delicacies on show at the Christmas Night Market on Maltby Street and niche and novel festive creations being showcased at Turning Earth Ceramics, there’s something for everyone.

Winter Wonderland Christmas Market

Where: Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park, Kensington

When: Winter Wonderland is on from 22 November 2018 – 6 January 2019

What: From fairground rides to Santa’s grotto, Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park is full of festive fun. Whether you fancy picking up a present from one of many stalls or spending an evening trying out every ride, it’s definitely worth a trip in the run-up to Christmas.

How much: Winter Wonderland is free to enter

The Hackney Christmas Market 

Where: The Hackney Christmas Market is on Bohemia Place (opposite Hackney Central Overground station)

When: Hackney Christmas Market is on 8, 9, 15 and 16 December, from 11am – 6pm

What: From festive food and drinks to live entertainment, the market will feature over 50 independent retailers, so if you’re looking to pick up something special then mark it in your calendar. 

Note: there will also be a clothes bank drop for the homeless and facilities to donate to the local Soup Kitchen, too.

How much: The Hackney Christmas Market is free to enter 

Christmas in Leicester Square

Where: Christmas in Leicester Square

When: Christmas in Leicester Square is on from 9 November to 6 January 2019

What: Santa’s Grotto? Check. Plenty of stalls and festive entertainment courtesy of Underbelly? Check. It’s hard to miss this market when it’s positioned right in the heart of the city in Leicester Square, so you have no excuse not to swing by.

How much: Christmas in Leicester Square is free to enter 

Christmas by the River 

Christmas by the River

Where: Christmas by the River is on the Southbank (nearest tube Waterloo)

When: Christmas by the River is on from 4 December 2018 to 2 January 2019

What: With views down the river and rows of German-style chalets, this the perfect spot to head to after a day’s work. Go to a festive workshop or simply grab a festive cocktail or two.

How much: Christmas by the River on the Southbank is free to enter

Winterville  

Where: Winterville is on Clapham Common

When: Winterville is on Tuesday to Thursday, from 3pm to 10pm, Friday 3pm to 10:30pm, Saturday 10am to 10:30pm and Sunday from 10am to 10pm.

What: If quirky entertainment, ice skating and delicious street food is what you’re after, Winterville in Clapham ticks every box.

How much: Winterville is free to enter 

Christmas Canopy Market at Kings Cross

Where: Christmas Canopy Market at Kings Cross

When: Christmas Canopy Market at Kings Cross is on every day until 16 December 2018

What: Canopy Market transforms into a magical wonderland in the run up to Christmas. From a plethora of stalls from independent makers to workshops from the Design Museum, there’s plenty to get involved with this month.

Turning Earth Ceramics Winter Market   

Where: Turning Earth Ceramics Winter Market is on Argall Avenue, London

When: Turning Earth Ceramics Winter Market is on Saturday 8 December and Sunday 9 December

What: With over 150 ceramists showcasing their work, live music from The Turbans and plenty of Sri Lankan street food on offer, it’s definitely worth a trip to this beautiful pottery studio in Leyton.

Zero Waste Christmas Market

When: Zero Waste Christmas Market is on Saturday 8 December, from 2pm to 9pm

What: On the lookout for alternative and ethical Christmas presents? Then this zero waste market will definitely help you fill someone’s stocking.

Maltby Street Christmas Night Market

What: Street food lovers rejoice! Warm yourself up with some mulled wine and indulge in every type of international delicacy imaginable at this year’s Maltby Street Christmas Market.
