Silk is the ultimate fabric for maintaining strong, healthy hair that’s low on tangles, breakages and static. From scrunchies to pillowcases, these are our favourite beauty buys

The headband

For the ultimate in silky luxury, go for Slip. The Australian brand launched in 2004 with a line of hypoallergenic mulberry silk pillowcases, and counts Drew Barrymore, Jourdan Dunn and Cindy Crawford among its fans. This simple headband will gently keep hair out of the way while you run through your skincare routine, without leaving an achy scalp or ruffled strands in its wake – but it’d look just as good at brunch as in your bathroom. £69, Net-a-Porter

The scrunchies

If you’ve ever used a covered elastic to secure your ponytail or bun overnight, you’ve probably woken up with snagged, tangled curls or a painful kink in your otherwise-straight hair. Not fun. London brand Only Curls’ 100% silk scrunchies are whisper-soft, pleasingly affordable and a much better option than a harsh elastic. They come in black, but we prefer this peachy-pink option, which is very Pink Ladies in Grease. £10 for two, Only Curls

The ribbons

Thanks to their softening, smoothing effects on hair and skin, silk accessories are often classed as beauty products rather than fashion pieces. But we would be remiss not to direct you to the beautiful wares of Sussex-based brand Mille Saisons, which include slinky hair ties, eye masks and headbands. We love the brand’s silk hair ribbons, which come in soft, subtle colours – rose petal, buttercream, silver grey – and make it easy to tie the perfect bow. From £12, Etsy

The pillowcase

Stylist’s junior beauty writer Ava Welsing-Kitcher is so attached to her silk pillowcase that she takes it on holiday with her. Why? The material is less absorbent than cotton, meaning that it’s less likely to soak up your night cream (which you want to stay on your skin) or hair products (which can irritate your face). The smooth texture also helps with defrizzing hair, and reduces your chances of waking up with crumpled-morning-face. Result. £47.99, This Is Silk

The hair wrap

If you have afro-textured hair, there’s a strong chance that you already cover your hair with a protective headwrap or cap made from silk or satin before you go to bed. But your hair will benefit from this technique whether it’s 1a or 4c. Silk headwraps retain the hair’s moisture, reduce the risk of breakages and help extend the lifespan of salon treatments – and this one is extravagantly glamorous, which we enjoy. £50, Cult Beauty ● Words by Moya Crockett

Cult US brand Milk Make-Up is finally here. Stylist’s beauty writer Hanna Ibraheem explains why its latest vibrant launch is a summer must-have

“While holidaying in New York three years ago, I made the obligatory pilgrimage to Sephora, where I stumbled across a Milk Make-Up stand and instantly realised what all the hype was about. Now, the brand is finally available on UK shores and with it, comes its iconic stick-packaged products. Its latest launch comes in the form of Glow Oils, a vegan and cruelty-free multipurpose product that works as both a blush or lip tint. Simply swipe on one of the four shades – bright pink Halo, plum Astro (my favourite), coral Flare or mauve Glimmer – for a burst of sheer colour. I dab the stick on the apples of my cheeks and blend out the edges with my fingers, then pat any transferred formula onto my lips for a subtle stain.” £12, exclusive to Cult Beauty

Kohl Kreatives is a rather special beauty brand. Not only does it create excellent brushes, it also runs free make-up workshops designed to empower people who are trans, undergoing chemo or living with severe skin conditions. Stylist Loves’ editor Kat Poole is currently obsessed with the brand’s small Ei8ht Brush, which is perfect for blending eyeshadow and concealer. Made from recycled plastic, it also has a natty cuboid handle – so it never rolls onto the floor. £8.99, Birchbox
