Take five with a round-up of our current favourite things to give your mental and physical health a boost.
How to relax your muscles, have a mindful flight and shop small
No time for a massage? We’ve found five products to soothe sore muscles at home. Plus: an app to fight jet lag and a lovely little eco store

The spray

For anyone familiar with the feeling of a muscle twinging so much you don’t actually want to move it, try a magnesium spray like this one from Kiki Health. It works quickly to soothe aches and help them to heal, whether you’re post-workout or post-sitting-at-a-desk-for-too-long. It’s best applied before bed – because magnesium, wonder ingredient that it is, has also been proven to aid sleep. £12, Cult Beauty

The oil

Thanks to Stylist Strong, we’re part of the growing set of women who lift. But strength training challenges our bodies in new ways, which means a day or so later we can really feel those previously unnoticed muscles come to life. If you’re familiar with that “oh, this is new” sensation, try Elemis’ Musclease oil – it’s a potent cocktail of maritime pine, sea buckthorn, and rosemary essential oil to massage in post-shower for tension relief. £31.95, John Lewis

The salts

If your favourite part of a yoga class is the guided meditation at the end, we’re with you. And may we recommend extending your zen even further by lowering yourself into tub teaming with Verdant Alchemy’s specially formulated Recovery Bath Salts? The tropical scented treat is a heady blend of Lemongrass, Ylang Ylang and basil with a muscle-unwinding base of Epsom salts. Add candles and a therapeutic podcast for extra chill vibes. £26, Verdant Alchemy

The scrub

Harnessing the healing power of the sea, Ren’s Anti-Fatigue Body Scrub is enriched with Atlantic kelp extract and microalgae oil, which leave your skin feeling soft and replenished. The physical act of exfoliating with sea and magnesium salt will activate micro-circulation, helping to unknot muscles and relieve sore joints. Massage onto dry skin (cleanse before if you choose) before getting into a hot bath, then let the oils and salt do the rest. £28, SpaceNK

The gel

CBD is still a buzzword in beauty, but you can use the ingredient’s soothing properties on your body, too. New brand Cubid have a whole line of products (we like the peppermint oil drops which contains 66% CBD but none of the hempy taste) but it’s the Stay Active gel we’re most into. Made with camphor, known to relieve pain, and cooling eucalyptus and rosemary oils, work it into your skin in large circles to take the muscle heat down a notch. £54.99, Cubid

Stylist’s beauty editor Lucy Partington gives her verdict on a new app designed to ease jet lag

“Developed by scientists, Timeshifter claims to alleviate the symptoms of jet lag by helping your circadian clock adjust while you travel. In reality, that means that after inputting flight details and your current sleep pattern, the app gently nudges you when it’s time to avoid caffeine, when best to sleep and when to avoid light or dark spaces. The whole process made me more aware of my actions leading up to and after a recent flight to New York, and although it wasn’t life-changing for me, it is both free and useful – so worth a try.” Download for free

It won’t change your world, but it will make it a bit brighter

Wouldn’t it be great if you could find all of your household eco alternatives all in one place? New online store Aube thinks so too. Beautifully designed and super convenient, the newly launched ethical marketplace from siblings George and Emily Kelly is home to a curated selection of products designed to be used on the daily – all with sustainability at their core.

There are biodegradable plasters (ingenious), drawstring grocery bags for loose things like onions and carrots, and cotton eco pads from Tabitha Eve (editor Kat bought 20 of these last year and they’re still going strong). Basically, it’s an ethical discovery tour. It’s also popping up IRL at Brixton Vegan Market this Sunday (21 July) – enjoy.
