Grey is the new beige
Keep your camel on standby – this autumn, we’re revelling in smoky shades. Here are our dream looks built around pieces in dove, ash and iron tones
Stylist Loves contributor Bre Graham says:

“I have a problem with knitwear – my jumper collection occupies almost all the space in my wardrobe and I spend too much time on the lookout for moths that might threaten my beauties. This dual-tone grey cropped sweater (£75, & Other Stories) made my autumn-loving heart beat faster; I’d throw it on over some classic high-waisted blue jeans (£40, Weekday) after rolling out of bed on a Sunday, then slide in a Seoul Import hairclip (£25) and head to the market with my empty Baggu (£13, Conran Shop) to fill with fruit and veg for the week.”

Stylist Loves’ deputy editor Moya Crockett says:

“As someone who was partial to a flannel shirt and heavy kohl eyeliner as a teenager, I’m drawn to a moth like a flame to this checked grey shirt (£24.90, Uniqlo). I’d layer it over a mid-length, long-sleeved, roll-neck black dress like this one by Copenhagen brand Part Two (£70) for maximum warmth, and add some sculptural gold-plated earrings (£74, Matthew Calvin) to stop things getting too grungy. On my feet, I’d go sleek rather than 90s stompy: these Vagabond boots (£100) are ideal.”

Stylist Loves contributor Naomi Joseph says:

“As it gets colder all I want is to cocoon in my duvet, but these grey check highwaisted trousers (£89, Arket) have got me daydreaming of autumnal executive realness. I’d like to be the kind of woman who flits from meeting to meeting with an oversized structured blazer (£146, Everlane) elegantly swinging from her shoulders and aspirational Aeydē heels (£201) on her feet. But it’s me – so I’d have to add a soft roll neck jumper (£35, M&S) to pull up around my face and down around my hands. Mini-cocoon unlocked.”

Throughout September, Stylist’s fashion editor Polly Knight is highlighting the key coats for autumn/winter. This week, she discovers 2019’s coolest puffer…

There’s nothing better than a practical piece that’s also on-trend – so we on the fashion desk are rejoicing that the puffer is back for its fourth season at the top of the coats charts.

You probably have a plain black or navy version knocking around in your wardrobe already, and that’s most definitely not redundant this year. But for a look that’s less Sporty Spice, more grown up, try a splash of rich colour, a longer length and a nipped-in waist. It’s peak comfy cool, so beat the cold-weather rush and get yours now. £150, Great Plains

Topshop just launched its second vegan shoe collection, and we’re very impressed

It seems big brands are listening when we say we want them to use fewer animal products. Last month, we learned that Dr Martens’ sales jumped 70% after they launched a vegan range – and now high-street giant Topshop has dropped its second vegan shoe collection. The new range features chic heeled boots, cowboy flats and (our personal favourites) winter mules, all PETA-approved and all under £80. This way for happy feet.
