The season of endless event-hopping is almost upon us – so we found the high street’s most covetable shoes that won’t wreck your feet

The knee-high boots

Want time-travelling footwear that can take you from office to party with ease? Try knee-high boots. They can feel charmingly 1960s (with a turtleneck and A-line mini), pleasingly 1990s (over slim jeans or trousers) or bang on 2019 (with a statement midi skirt and camisole). Like Monica’s boots in Friends, you’ll want to wear these mock-croc beauties all the time – but they’ll hold up better at a work Christmas do. £139, Office

The block heel

It’s 6pm and you’re hastily changing your shoes under your desk before running out the door for drinks. Mid-height, block-heeled pumps in a bold print or colour are perfect for these situations: they feel festive without being OTT, and you’ll still be able to run for the bus. Clarks’ leopard print pumps (£59) are ideal – and these ankle-strapped beauties are great for those with narrower toes. £69, Topshop

The barely-theres

Minimal heels are notoriously uncomfy. Without proper straps, your feet are left in a sort of Free Solo situation, clinging precariously to your insoles lest they fall to their deaths. The solution? A chunky heel and harness-like ankle fastening (OK, we’ll stop with the rock climbing metaphor now). Stylist LovesMoya can personally vouch for these sturdy strappies – and they’ll go with every party outfit you own. £169, Whistles

The sleek ankle boots

Just like everybody needs somebody to love and everybody needs a bosom for a pillow, everybody needs a pair of slim high-heeled ankle boots to make any outfit look slicker and sexier. A black sock boot is a subtle classic: Kat likes Aldo’s version (£80) for being both comfy and slinky. And these cushiony, almost-white heels are beloved by Moya for their retro feel – and for fitting her wide feet, despite the square toe. £85, River Island

The party mules

Some shoes aren’t meant for running tipsily around town in the drizzle, but are perfect for when the party starts and ends at a friend’s house. (Uber to the door, Uber straight home; is there anything better?) If you don’t do heels, channel Dumbledore on date night with these gloriously starry flats (£25.99, Zara). But if there’s ever a time for magenta velvet mules, it’s party season – and these feel like fancy slippers. £30, Asos

No clue whether it’s Big Coat Weather or a light jacket day? Stylist’s fashion editor Polly Knight has the answer

Thanks to November’s middling weather, you can be in a full puffer one day and sweltering on the tube the next. So in a bid to survive the constant on/off coat battle, I’ve scoured the high street for the perfect in-between jacket.

M&S’s heavy-duty checked overcoat has all the style points of a trucker with all the versatility of a proper wardrobe staple: you can layer it over your knitwear on milder days, under your coat when the winter chill really sets in, and pair it with black tailored trousers, ankle boots and a slim fit roll next for a more polished take on the trend. Practical, perfect. £69, Marks & Spencer

Why have one sustainable fashion event in your diary when you could have three?

We know you love ethical fashion brand Birdsong as much as we do, so you’ll be happy to hear you can find them popping up in Soho – with shopping and workshops galore. Down the road in Seven Dials, a new pop-up store by #LoveNotLandfill opens tomorrow: a celebration of wonderful second hand shopping featuring new charity collections and Depop sellers (both until Sunday).

Finally, sustainably-minded jewellery brand Otiumberg has brought its ‘Personalisation Station’ to Selfridges, where until Christmas Eve you can build your own necklace, create huggie/charm combinations and order the soon-to-be-iconic name bracelets. Enjoy!
