How we do party make-up (when we’ve got zero time)
Frantically redoing your face at your desk at 6pm is as much a part of party season as sequins and mistletoe. Here’s how Team Stylist get ready to go out in 10 minutes or less

“When I’m short on time at the end of the day, I swipe Bobbi Brown’s Illuminating Bronzing Powder in Aruba (£32) over my eyelids as well as my cheeks. It ties things together nicely and looks like I’ve actually made an effort. And if my hair isn’t looking its best, I scrape it into a high pony and use NYX’s clear eyebrow gel (£5.20) to slick down flyaways. Looks sleek and considered, takes 20 seconds.”

“I’ve been doing a 60s-inspired cat-eye for over a decade; blame the ubiquity of Zooey Deschanel during my formative years. Liquid liner is still my go-to party look when I’m in a rush, and after much trial and error, I can confirm that Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner (£14.45) is the best out there: dark, dense and un-budge-able, with a nib so precise it’s practically foolproof. Vital when there’s no time for mistakes.”

“I’m lazy with makeup, so my evening prep is mainly topping up what I put on that morning. I have dry skin, so I’ll reapply Origins’ Energy Boosting Tinted Moisturiser (£32; glowy, life-giving, non-greasy), then re-fluff my brows with Burberry’s Eyebrow Definer (£22.50; buy it once and it’ll last an entire year). Finally, a smudge of 3INA’s Cream Eye Paint (£9.71) blends easily and effortlessly, even if you’re already wearing eyeshadow.”

Shannon Peter, beauty director

“My tiny bag barely fits my phone, let alone a bulging make-up bag, so my end-of-day touch-ups are fairly low-key. Well, as low-key as patting a few drops of Clé de Peau’s rather fancy Sheer Fluid Veil (£55) over my cheeks and forehead can be. A mix between a serum and a highlighter, it peels back my 5pm pallor to reveal something closer to that 9am fresh-faced glow. Plus, it tessellates perfectly in my bag.”

Nicole, video producer/director

“Swapping foundation for a glowy primer is a good timesaver: I’m currently using L’Oreal Paris Glow Cherie (£6.95) while lusting after By Terry’s pricier Cellularose CC Serum (£61). I’ll also often touch up my make-up while en route to a party – it can backfire if I don’t get a seat, but Glossier’s Lidstar and Cloud Paint (both £12) are so blendable they look great even when applied messily.”

The dip in temperature had left Stylist’s beauty writer Hanna Ibraheem’s hair worse for wear. Until she found this treatment…

With the arrival of these near-arctic temperatures, we’re all dialling up the central heating to the max – and my hair has paid the price. The elements have left it duller and drier than ever before, but thankfully I’ve found a mask to fix that.

Shea Moisture’s Manuka Honey and Yogurt Protein Power Treatment contains, as the name suggests, honey and yoghurt – both of which nourish hair and leave it smooth and shiny. But the added protein really makes the difference – it’s key for healthy hair and helps to make the hair shaft stronger. Scoop up a handful, apply it from root to tip and leave it on for 15 minutes before washing out. You can thank me later. £10.99, Boots
